Just thought I'd comment on the Steve McQueen commercial. Do you all agree that is the coolest commercial ever made. If you are a true Mustang you'll have to agree with me. Pretty cool how they got him sitting in the 05, & it just so happens mine is Satin Silver just like the commercial.

Best. Commercial. Evar? Uh.. So you've seen all commercials for all products?
I always thought the "we just blew 2 million on this commercial." during a Super Bowl was soda outta my nose funny. The Mean Joe Green / kid with a Coke was awesome. The Coke "Perfect Harmony" is always welcome... Wait. YOU meant... Best. Mustang commercial. Evar. Oh. My bad. Well, I would assume, not having seen every one, that it's a topper of the charts.... I certainly give it :nice: :nice: And a  to boot! |
The budweiser frogs were the best

Hey guys, I'm a new poster but a long-time lurker.
The commercial is okay, i think it could have been better. What is Steve McQueen doing in a cornfield? (The only fields he knows are the fields of war-torn Europe!) It would have been better if the commercial were based in San Fransisco and he made a jump with the car. Yeah, I know that messing up a brand new Mustang would offend a lot of people around here, but its not like it wouldn't have been for a worthy cause. |
Er...have you seen Field of Dreams?
And I think the Trunk Monkey collection get my vote for best commercials ever. But this one is pretty cool. Oh...and welcome to the forums! |
What does Steve McQueen doing in a cornfield? Hey, I'll build a racetrack around my neighborhood, if someone will give me an '05 to race on it. :-D |
good points, but what does McQueen have to do with Field of Dreams?
I'm just envisioning what could have been done to make it my "favorite" commercial. I mean, getting the car airborne must be worth at least 25 brownie points. ;) |
I also think it is a very good commerical.
I will say that The General did a great coml - the one with the SSR backing up onto the moving auto transport. |

I mean, getting the car airborne must be worth at least 25 brownie points. ;) Field of Dreams: Kevin Coster is told "If you build it (baseball field in a cornfield on his farm) he/they will come" McQueen commercial: "If you build it (racetrack in a, get this, cornfield on a farm) he (McQueen) will come." See? The "he/they will come" part doesn't keep going, but it ought to say "he will come *to play.*" So when the guy builds the racetrack and puts the Mustang on it, McQueen comes out of the corn to play racer, like the guys come out of the corn to play baseball in Field of Dreams. If you build it*, he will come. *racetrack. Mustang not included. |
I don't think McQueen looks so funny in a corn field. After all, he was an Indiana boy, so I think he might have seen plenty of them! I met him many years ago when he was just making it in 'Wanted: Dead or Alive." I was a kid, but he was really nice, quiet but pleasant. I hated to see him go so young. :( What a waste, but I love the commercial.

I personally like the Anthem commercial better. But they could have also said something about it being a true AMERICAN muscle or had the flag in the background, that would have been sweet!
|
Yeah....'Cornfield' and 'Anthem' are very good commercials. The 2:18 video/commercial called "Trilogy" is pretty impressive as well. It can be located in the 2005 ads link within the Mustang Source page.

First off, if you listen to the very beginning of the full Cornfield spot they do have the disembodied voice whispering "If you build it, he will come." Secondly, I agree that the Cornfield and Anthem are the best Mustang spots that I can remember seeing, but the best tv adds ever? I kinda like Buds Clydsdales playing football. You know, where the one rancher leans over and asks the other if they do that often and the other guy says, "Na, they usually go for two."

The baseball players were the legends of the game. Steve Mcqueen is legendary to mustang freaks. He came back to not just drive on a track. he came back to drive a mustang worthy of his return! Get it? Ford is saying this mustang is so special Mcqueen would wake up from a dirt nap to drive it.

I think the Cornfield and the Anthem are definitely in the top ten of commercials ever... but the new Chevy commercials are closing in fast!!
