Saw a few others (4 I think) parked off to the side, but not sure what models they were, though one of them was a blue '04 Cobra...

Maybe you other dealership will have a larger selection which means they might do bigger business with ford for mustangs.

we have 49 gt coupes and convertibles btw.........with more V6's then gts, i didnt bother to count. 50 more still due in....Whos more misinformed, the dealer, or the customer? Go ahead, "order" your car.

As for mustangs do the math: 500+ SVT dealers, 1000 Mystichromes made, we got 5... We also had 12 10th anniversary models last year. Oh and 4 007 T-birds.....

As for GT supercars, nearly 5000 Ford dealers, 1100 GT supercars, we have 2 bucked, most likely getting 3......

I think the best way for an average guy to get an ordered car early in the production cycle would probably require the following:

(1) Order a highly optioned car with a $500 dollar deposit.

(2) Agree to pay MSRP.

(3) Order from a reputable, large volume dealer who moves a lot of Mustangs.

You just have to be truly serious and willing to wait.

Case in point, The 05 Escape has been out for two months. There were tiny batches of fwd limiteds and xlts made. The only Limited FWDs that are on lots have black interiors(and only 4 in the area at that). We do not have one in stock, nor are ANY of our 60 ordered ones in production yet. All of these orders were placed months ago. There are less then 5 AWD limiteds with black interiors in the area. There are next to 0 manual XLS's out yet, we were force fed one we never ordered on the first truck, and none of the manual XLS 4WD's have changed status since the day they were ordered by us. there are only 5 norsea blue units within a 100 mile radius-we have yet to see one in ANY configuration(20 ordered various styles) This vehicle is produced in nearly identical numbers to the next Mustang. There were only 5 retail orders placed for them before release at the dealer. It will be luck of the draw no matter how or when you order it. We DX out one in 3 sales of them(we can hardly keep them on the lot, I sold 3 this past week, and one more tonight for pickup in the morning-yes its coming from another dealer).

You may be better off chasing down units as they are made like we do now with the Escape, as long as you swap the same car type, most dealers could care less about which vehicles they have in stock as long as they have something. With a low variety/configuration count, most likely 2 or 3 dead ringers at other local dealers will arrive before any order you place. Believe it or not, the remaining 04s are better "bartering tools" then the 05's are because they are rare and have large rebates. It may actually be easier to get an 05 Stang from another dealer if we use an 04 to "swap". Even a new-gen Mustang fires up demand for the current car, some people are in situations that only a rebate will get them financed. Sales of the current car are soaring, more then 20% higher then last year's #s.

I'm up in the Chicago area, and I'm trying to narrow down which dealership to order from, the three I have in mind are all Blue Oval's, do a fair amount sales(they are all on major streets, one on the local dealerstrip-Ogden Ave), and I was wondering if you have any tips on picking one the 'best' one to order from (I'm going in either tommorrow or Monday to order)
