S197 5th Generation Mustang Renderings - Slide Show

Via Road & Track . . .

Fifth Generation (S197) Ford Mustang:
Walk through the stages of design for the S197 Mustang and see how the new-age-retro was carved out.
http://www.roadandtrack.com/go/autom...ain_sr#slide-1

I haven't seen some of these before . . . or at least I don't remembering seeing some of them.

Saw a link after the slideshow to some Mustang II concepts/models, some of which I also hadn't seen before. I noticed some neat similarities in the tailight design even decades later:

Kinda wish they went with these... in both cases

It seems like they had a hell of a time deciding on the final design of the tail lights huh?

Couldn't agree with you more. What a stunning looking car and that rear.

I liked the concept, but saw the production model prototype at the next show, love at first sight...wound up with three of them

That's also what I liked best about the concept as well, and perhaps it's just me, but doesn't the roofline/greenhouse on the concept appear to look visually lower than the actual 2005 production model

I see the trademark sail panel from the R8 in a lot of those concepts. It'd be interesting to see when those sketches were made vs when the R8 was styled. I have a feeling that the Ford sketches came first...but I'm too lazy. Or they both got the idea from somewhere else.

Its kind of amazing to see the progression of design between all of these sketches. Really makes you appreciate how refined of a design the S197 was. yeah its a little plain compared to some of these concepts, but c'mon-- its a production car
