Anyone read the owners manual yet? After checking out the copy in the timeline section, I came across some things that caught my attention:

Event Data Recording :shock: Big brother is always watching - the car is recording everthing you are doing at any given point in time - and even mentions the words court order - "Honestly officer, I did not have my foot on the gas and the wheels straight ahead when that Corvette pulled out in front of me" :jester:

The Active Anti theft system enables the power windows to be controlled from the remote. This is cool for a $25k car.

The manual warns "Do not downshift in to 1st when your vehicle is moving faster than 15 mph. This will damage the clutch" Where is the fun in that? :burnout:

The brakes have a oh-s! feature - Brake Assist. It senses hard braking and applies full braking force. Good Stuff.

Thanks to who ever found the manual....does anyone know if it is a final copy or just a proof?

Wow that is cool about the windows, I didn't realize any cars had that feature. :nice:

The remote windows go like this....

If you hold the unlock button on your FOB, it will unlock both doors, and roll down both windows.

You can not lock and up both windows.....if you wish to do that, I think you have to hold your key in the door, in the lock position...this will force the doors to lock and roll up both windows.

so you cant squish someone in the window I'm sure :-D

Man, no window remote-UP fob feature? I was gonna look for that as a torture device in the next James Bond film. :shedevil:

I think the alarm remote will be ugly like every Ford remote for the past 10 years. God forbid they spend $35 for some some grade school students to come up with a simple yet savvy design like they did for Dodge...

Here is another oddity. I have not seen an engine require this weight motor oil before. Maybe this is nothing new.

Use SAE 5W-20 engine oil.
Only use oils “Certified For Gasoline Engines” by the American
Petroleum Institute (API). An oil with this trademark symbol conforms
to the current engine and emission system protection standards and fuel
economy requirements of the International Lubricant Standardization and
Approval Committee (ISLAC), comprised of U.S. and Japanese
automobile manufacturers.
To protect your engine’s warranty use Motorcraft SAE 5W-20 or an
equivalent 5W-20 oil meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C930-A. SAE
5W-20 oil provides optimum fuel economy and durability
performance meeting all requirements for your vehicle’s engine.
Do not use supplemental engine oil additives, cleaners or other engine
treatments. They are unnecessary and could lead to engine damage that
is not covered by Ford warranty.
Change your engine oil according to the appropriate schedule listed in
the scheduled maintenance guide.

If the battery weren't dead in my remote/key thingamyjig, my '93 XJ6 would do that. As is, I can still put the windows up by holding the key in the lock position in any keyhole.

Shows how quickly cars are catching up with what was considered luxurious and out of reach a mere 11 years ago.

My friend 2000 Maxima does the window thing by remote. The kids like playing with it while she's at church.

Big brother is in all cars made in the last several years. I don't think they announced it until the news got ahold of it and made it general information.

So you are hauling it, crash into something, say it was someone elses fault and you swear you were going the speed limit, the lovely black box will out you every time. I wanted to disable mine, but I heard it renders the motor unrunnable. Nice.

Its like my husband pointed out to me- auto headlights like I have is the car telling you when to turn them off(and I was thinking this whole time it was nice not to have to think about it or drain a battery forgetting to turn them off)

Maybe I'm just gullible, but I thought the primary use of EDR was for the manufacturer's crash investigation team. Use the data to know what went wrong and why, use the info to make the next car safer. Then again, I don't even know if Ford uses a team like that.

I think General Maintenance has been out to tell us what to do for years. I hate them.

But yes, the EDR can be used to catch you in a lie in a vehicle crash, or to rule in your favor as well. The blasted thing knows everything you do.

Luckily, I'm a flawless driver, so in the event of a crash it will never be my fault, anyway. :banana: :jester:

There will be so much crap in cars eventually, you will have to take a tech. with you, everywhere you go! :scratch:

the black box as you like to call it is actually part of the obd2 system. any car with OBD 2 will have this. I have a little gizmo called the car chip ex that records all this info and i can veiw it on my computer. I can also monitor many other engine specs, such as igniton timing, engine load, intake manifold pressure, coolant temp. voltages for o2 sensers throtel position, and some other stuff i cant remember. plus you can get trouble codes and reset the check engine light. comes in very handy. Anyone else use it ?? or heard of it

I didn't realize you had to have the active Anti Theft System to get the control of the power windows...I thought that was standard on the car :angry:

The 5w-20 oil has been standard on almost all Ford vehicles from 2001-present. Wal-Mart sells the Motorcraft brand (Ford) fairly cheap.

I've also seen some Honda/Acura cars which use 5w-20 now. Mobil 1 has introduced a 0w-20 oil that is supposed to meet the specs for both the Honda and Ford requirements for 5w-20 oils.

300C takes the same oil in its Hemi.
