Hey all,

I'm about to order a 06 GT Vert. And I have a quick question about the deposit that is usually required by the dealer to place the order. For those who have ordered a mustang, has the dealer deposited the check or held on to it until the car came in? Just curious because I'm getting multiple stories and what I'm really asking is if they deposit it and then I dont want the car for any reason, am I going to lose the deposit?

Thanks!

Make sure you ask the dealer what their policy is. Some dealers require a deposit as low as $250.00 while others want thousands. Some refund the deposit if you cancel, while others keep it. My dealer required a $250.00 refundable deposit. Once my car arrived the $250.00 was put towards the purchase.

and welcome to the forum

correct. I found a dealer who accepted xplan with no deposit but I really shopped around the area. I would advise the same.

My dealer required a $1000 deposit, but I negotiated a $500 refundable. The dealer has cashed my check.

My dealer required $500 on the first car I ordered, which went toward the purchase price. The second car I ordered from them, they did not require any deposit. The first deposit would have been refundable if I had decided not to purchase the car and they did deposit the check.

If it were me I would NEVER give a dealer a deposit if he tried to say it was "non-refundable" as I'm pretty sure it's illegal to do that.. and I wouldn't want to deal with that person anyway.

Find a dealer that will order for you without a deposit... look at it this way, it's not like they're going to have a hard time selling your car if you decide not to buy it. AND if they say they will they're full of BS

If you are within driving distance to CA let me know. I will place your order w/o deposit ( as long as you don't order a 'strange' order-like Legend Lime w/red accent ). Teri at Mossy Ford

I am also in the Bay Area. Send me a IM and I will put you in touch with a local dealer in the BA that will get you a Stang at a reasonable delivery time/price.
