just had something on my mind and wanted to see other opinions. in 10 years from now do you think for will change to appearance to "re-evolve". since it looks so much like a 69/70 mustang now, do you think it will change to look like 71-73's or even a retro/new looking II ot Fox?

I think retro will die off and an all new style will emerge. After this one is changed several times.

I think the Quarter window might disapear in the future and the ducktail will be intergrated.I saw a few clay models of the intergrated ducktail on a 05 proto type. Was'nt a big ducktail.Just a slight up flairing like the old 60's 70's type.
Why it did'nt make it to production who knows.

I have a feeling they'll try and keep the same design DNA that resides in the 05 that what many people call retro, I call ....going with the flow....

I don't think its retro, I think its what stangs SHOULD look like.
It'll evolve, but still keep the same characteristics.

The book "Mustang: A New Breed of Pony Car 2005" say that they did not go with the intergrated duck tail spoiler because "it would blur the distinction between the V-6 and GT". They should have made it an option though.

Good point, Pete. I agree with that (that is my old man way of saying "werd")

Same here, I love the look of the 05 and think it's what a mustang should look like.
I can only imagine how good it's going to look as they make some changes over the next few years

Then i've been asking myself the same question ever since the 05 came out..."Where is Ford going to go with the next version of the mustang?" It just has me worried about what they'll do..will it still retain some of the classic look..or will the brass demand a new more futuristic look. It seems like some designers have a hard road ahead of them to beat the current version. This car has came from the original classics...then the cobra II's..to the fox bodies...then all the changes through the 90's and up til 04...

Now, you can say the car has came full circle...back to it's roots. Where it will go from here I don't have a clue. I just know i'm going to enjoy it will it's here and hope to treat myself to one (hopefully a Cobra/Shelby) once I finish college. Man, isn't this a great time to be a mustang fan...

Go Mountaineers!!! Sweet 16

Jeff - I think you make a good point - I was wondering the other day where the Mustang would go from here?? This is the 1st model (IMO) since the 94 - 98 that looks like the Mustang should - although I owned a 2000 GT vert - I never did care for the slab sided look or the amount of front overhang.......seemed more like a coupe with Mustang styling cues!! While the '05 on the other hand - just screams Mustang - no need for the name stamped in the rear bumper fascia!

I'm also glad to be in on the '05 - because what Ford typically does is start messing around with minor styling cues so people think they are getting something diff than the previous years car - and (IMO) most of those tweeks detract from the looks.....only time will tell - but I'm betting on a more "futureistic" look the in 2010 or so.

Thanks HOTLAP...I guess we have a little while before we see what they come up with

Until then i'll be preoccupied with the Shelby

im a really big fan of the 65s, but i know that the exaggerated lines of the 67-70 can be played upon a whole lot more by a artist. id guess that for the next redesign there may be some effort made to soften the transition to hydrogen. my dream would be a body that looks like (is) a 65 fastback coupled with modern guts. life can be sad for dreamers...

I think it will lean closer to the concept. The concept looked a bit more modern than the production car. I have a feeling it will move to a more chisseled look like they did in 99.
