There is some truth in this, and I say thanks to all the "girls" who bought a 6 cylinder Mustang. Those sales have kept the Mustang alive over the years, and it's why we have a Mustang Gt. It wouldn't exist without the base of 6 buyers.

Based on those kind of generalizations, it can be said that most Corvette owners are balding middle-aged wannabes or their wives. Considering that, I do see more women driving vettes around here.

It's not a bad article, after all Mr. Flint did say:

But this new one is a Mustang for sure, and it might just be the car that makes driving fun again. One more thing: This pony isn't German or Japanese. It's pure Detroit.
Call me a girlie man then...with a 300HP GT

The original 65-66 has often been referred to as a "secretary's car". Even Carroll Shelby has said that. The difference is the men that take a cute, mild mannered car and turn it into a monster.
AMEN BROTHER!
The Writer just forgot to mention the rest of the Mustangs Loyal Fan Base, the Gt Owners, and the Mach 1 and Cobra Lovers. That's the Beauty of the Mustang! There's a Model for Every Segment of the Market! From the Economical/Sensible V6, to the Stop Light Dragster GT, to the Ground Pounding Cobra's, Mach 1's, and Bosses. That's why the Mustang's Still Here! Without having a product that can satisfy such a broad spectrum of buyers, it's hard to keep a model around for the long haul. Way to go FORD!

I dare anyone, repeat, anyone to name one car that appeals to so many "stereotypes", e.g. men, women, older people, younger people, rich, not so rich, racers, ricers, any race, any body!!!!! B)

He's wrong. We do still get excited about cars.

I about wet my pants the first time my dad tossed me the keys to my 68 Camaro, back in 1991. I nearly wet them again when he asked me if I wanted to drive his new Trans Am WS6 back in 2000. I think I giggled like a school girl when I drove my new Z28 home later that same year

AND
When I take delivery of my new 2005 or 2006 Mustang GT I will be grinning from ear to ear.

I pray that Ford has spurred another pony war. Rumour has it that Chevrolet will bring the Camaro back in 2007 as a RWD 2+2 with an optional V8, and we Chrysler is bringing back the Charger as a 4 door, but supposedly they will be getting back into the muscle/pony market by offering a 2 door Charger with an optional V8 too.

I pray it's true, but if it isn't we atleast know the Mustang isn't a rumour.

The Mustang now has an image as a man's car although about 75% of the people I see driving them out here are women from 18 - 35. It is not a girls car, just sells good to them.

It's certainly seems true that 9 times out of 10 when you see a Vette go by the driver is in his 60s. Let's revisit this topic in about 3 years and see what the demographics are for the new generation Mustang. I predict it will be wildy popular among both males and females in their 20s, and will show up in many driveways next to the family minivan or SUV, replacing a Civic or Corolla or even a small pick-up as the commuter car for 30s and 40s guys. Couples in their 50s who have raised their kids and can now downsize at least one vehicle will buy it as a fun car and remembrance of their teen years. I bet more than a few will be dragged to Fla or Az behind a class A motorhome with Gramps at the wheel.

Dang - I think it may just be time to get some FoMoCo stock!

Cool

"It's certainly seems true that 9 times out of 10 when you see a Vette go by the driver is in his 60s..."
That is because you have to be in your 60s to have the insurance come down enough to be able to justify owning a 'vette. My insurance agent said that with the company I am with the last, "big" discount comes at 45 years of age. No wonder all the'vette drivers are over that age mark.

Again, as others have said, the Mustang appeals to all groups and their is a version for all.

Insurance for the vette has always been stupid. My Stang costs £438 a year, a 2000 Corvette would be £1200!!!

as others have said......you might as well call me a girl....

I've noticed that Vette drivers are 45-60 year old men. Even a friend who's a vette lover says so. (I was asking him about being a ticket magnet. He said, "Cops don't look at Vettes, because they're all middle aged men drivers"). I found that interesting, because the Vette is not a comfortable car. Very low and pretty harsh ride. Handles well, and runs great -- but it's like a poor mans super car. A Mustang is more a traditional sporty car. You aren't sitting on the road looking up at everything. You have a back seat. It is a practical sportscar.

And some people love to play with cars and put their personalities on them. I've enjoyed my M3. It runs great, handles well, etc. But it is a little bland. There just isn't the variety of personalities in it that you find in Mustangs.

sounds like he should go for a spin in a fully blown 428 with nitrous. Then when the car stops just say: how did you dig my sisters car?
