Mustang Fever
I've haven't been in the Mustang world that long but I have noticed a couple of things....Since the 2005 Mustang hit the roads even the last gen Mustangs have gained in popularity and the Mustangs folks really seem to enjoy the benifits of 2005+ handling. The presence of ownership pride is evident when someone starts to personalize the car by modding or slapping on a cool set of wheels.I hope that Ford is watching and learning that we want more out of these Mustang, like a 5.4 3 valve aspirated GT engine.I know its wishful thinking. I hope the trend continues in this new found fellowship among Mustangers and that Ford would follow up with more retro styling.Ford hit a homerun and as a new fan I hope they continue their quest for cars that people want.

Yes, I've really noticed the "Mustang Fever" in our culture ever since the 2005s came out. I think a lot of it is because of the nostalgia for the classic Mustangs.
During the 80s, 90s and early 2000s, there was always a buzz about the Mustang. When the New Edge came out in '99 I thought, wow they're beautiful! Best looking car you could buy from 1999 to 2004. I got the fever then.
But when the 2005 arrived on the scene, it seemed like everybody went crazy over them. It was perhaps the best performance buy in the world, with the great looking retro style of the smooth roof line of the '65 - '66. The GT had the quad head lights of the '69. There was the flat triple tail lights of the '70. And the gauges were reminiscent of the classic Mustangs. They had a really classy and classic feel to them.
Even if you were only making the wages of an everyday working stiff, you could afford to be driving the coolest car in the world! How great is that?
I love the classic Mustangs. Always have. For me, buying a new 2007 Mustang feels like buying a brand new classic Mustang.

Mustang enthusiasts have always been modding their pony's. I guess the "extra" popularity you see, is because people see a 67-68 Fastback when they see an S197, so they are selling like they did in 1964.

Okay, I'm going to date myself. My first car as a 17-year old was a '69 351 Mach I. My dad made me sell it to go to college. I was "rather" upset. I complained soooo much that he let me buy another car when I was home for the holidays. I found one in the local paper. I told my dad it was a '70 Mustang with a 302. He said we could go take a look. It had some cool striping and a square hole in the hood. The owner was asking $1500 and we offered $1400 because of the hole. He took it. My dad agreed to pay for the missing shaker -- I certainly could not afford it. I knew this car was something rare and tried to keep it as long as I could. Unfortunately, as a teenager, I could barely afford to keep gas in it. It got only 7 mpg.... It was a:
1970 Boss 302
Wimbledon White
Custom cloth red interior (super rare in a Boss)
W-Code rear axle (4.30 Detroit Locker!!)
Spoilers and shaker but no slats.
Since the Mustang II (1974), I have never really liked any of the body styles including my '03 Cobra I owned for two years. I bought this car because of its rarity and power!! But again, never really fell in love with it because I didn't care for the way it looked. Then came 2005. I now own a pair of '05s....... Really takes me back.
Final note: It's kind of ironic that I owned a Boss 302 as a teenager making minimum wage. I don't think I could afford one today!

The reason why you are seeing more SN-95 (last gen) Mustangs on the road, is that a lot of people who owned them and kept them as garage queens have sold them and bought new 2005+ Mustangs. The new owner's of those last gen Mustangs are driving them instead of storing them.

I think I agree with V-10. The new edge cars are affordable and fairly available with so many people trading in for the 05+ cars. The mustang bug has been around for a while, I just think so many people are just now getting bitten by the latest styling. Just try to find a 5.0 fox body that isn't modified, thats how popular those cars were.
Oh, and I am on my 6th mustang. 7 if you include a fox bodied mercury capri.

I've noticed this fever here in LA.... but the funny part is the majority of them are V6's and auto's.
I've seem maybe 5-6 GT's in the last 3 months i've owned my car. The rest are V6's.
