That is Great news! I wouldn't get one if it didn't get 5 stars, I'm hope they do the side test with and without air bags.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 2005 Mustang received 5 stars on frontal for both driver and passenger, the sides have yet to be tested and it received 5 stars for rollover.

That certainly is some good news, regardless. I would imagine the V8 version would require a seperate test, since it has such a large engine? Also I am intersted in seeing how well the side airbags work, and if they make much of a difference in the rating.

Those tests do look good. I figure anything is safer than my 1989 Taurus w/ no airbags that I have to put up with for i guess another week (1/6 won't get here fast enuf). I made sure to get the side bags on mine, my old man bought a 69 mach 1 brand new back in the day, wrecked the crap out of it, just rebuilt the same one a few years back. If i follow the family curse I want to be safe.

Galaxie,
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety dose the offset test, but they don't do Mustangs, or atleast they haven't done them in the past and they don't say why. They did to the Lincon LS and is rated as best in class.
maddhatteroo7,
Maybe you spend too much time with the mercury vapors; instead of an 05 you should get classic Mustang without headrest, shoulder belts, padded dash, breakaway steering wheel, crumple zones, air bags, side air bags, protective door beam, safety glass, protective gas tank, four wheel disc brakes, anti-lock brakes, traction control, and other engineering breakthroughs of the last 40 years. There is nothing wrong with enjoying life, that is what God intended, but being “apathetic” and wanting “to enjoy the stuff the most I can” is an oxymoron. Wake up and don’t just enjoy life REJOICE, that’s why we drive Mustangs instead of _______.

That did look good.........Though that sound gave me flashbacks of my crazy crash! there is nothing like airbags goin off, it is like a gun shot near the face! Here is the difference b/n that crash test and my 98 cobra i crashed! Though i believe i was going just a little bit faster and rolled a couple of times!
In all honesty, the previous model held up real well in a 90 mph crash as you can see...check out the passenger compartment.......though the floorboard did crunch up on our feet! From what I understand, the S197 is much better from a safety standpoint, so we should be in good shape.
