Lightbar on a mustang...
 

So i have a 2009 with aftermarket headlights and the gt fogs but im unhappy with my light output. im going to be converting my headlights to HIDS and upgrading the bulbs in my fogs to LEDs but im worried i still wont be satisfied..
Has anyone ever heard of putting a lightbar onto a mustang?

I was thinking maybe a little 7-10 inch lightbar and mount it into the lower front grille where its not blinding drivers and i could drive with it.. thoughts?

Don't use it with oncoming traffic present. Only on clear, open roads. They will blind other drivers.

even if its a small one down low?

Yes, I have a strong desire to whip the *** of all those around here with them.

There actually is a mustang locally that has one on the roof. And they drive a round with it on, just like the other jack *** lifted trucks around here. Wish they would start ticketing them for these illegal lighting for on road use.


On a less soap box rant point, I think that is probably a good location for it of your going to do it. Both for aesthetic reasons and for less of a chance to blind on coming drivers.

I agree.... I saw a truck using one the other night and it was super bright, even tho it was at the bottom of the bumper.

HID'S should be plenty bright... I had them on my 05 and loved them

This is how the mustang around me with one has it mounted.

But something like this would be a much cleaner look, and much less (not no or none) obtrusive to oncoming traffic.

Most of those light bars are not aimed, and just throw light everywhere like your high beams. Doesn't matter where they are, if they cannot be aimed and have a cutoff, they should not be used with traffic present.

Even with quality optics, you're still going to be producing a great amount of output. They really are intended for off-road use only. Here's an example of the output with our 50" light bar:

Now I see why they love em' and why I hate those that use them on the road.

Ours feature a black faceplate, so they are much less visible behind a grille

That looks cool. I could of used that driving thru the desert on my trip out west. Sure would have brightened things up a bit.

Do you happen to have a similar picture with say a 10"? Just to see it

I want to see this. I am glad there is someone who has the same thoughts as me. The spots in the lower grill are perfect for those. As far as highway use...... Any time in a rural ares there can never bee too much light... DEER! That is all one needs to think about.

exactly! i figured as long as i use it as i would with high beams (while there is no nearby oncoming traffic etc and if there is just switch it off till they pass) i figured ill be fine.. going to offroad warehouse (where i got my old trucks lightbar) to see what they can do for me sometime this week

So i got a quote for 2 seperate pods to be mounted requiring customer brackets and they will be 2 5x2 pods... Quoted $700 out the door parts and labor.. seems a bit stiff for a total of 10x4 of lights... Any advice guys?

I saw this a while ago and got inspired. 12 inch light bar cost around $40 on Amazon, wiring harness for $15, and a friend installed it for me.

It's wired to an independent switch and I just use it as brights, seeing my headlights weren't that good.
