With the 05 Stang being a very retro design, I got a big question in my head.

Suppose Ford would have made the EXACT same '68 Mustang model (or another exact production replica), but with an all new motor under the hood and new electronic features inside, would you buy it? Would you go nuts? Or would you be dissapointed?

It can even be another car, imagine a '70 plymouth Barracuda replicamodel built in '05. With a new engine and features.

I am really interested for response.

*thinking*
well... I guess a '67 Shelby Mustang GT500 in white with blue stripes is way more exciting than a 2005 replica that is technologically up-to-date

I'd like a reproduction of one of the specialty versions, especially the original Boss, but I don't think the collectors of the world would be very happy about it. I know people wouldn't actually mistake it for the original, but I'd get the same feeling about this hypothetical car that a lot of people get about fake badges and labeling.

I think a lot of people would buy it up, but the people who had the original design would probably feel pretty cheated, because their car would constantly be mistaken (mistook?) for the new model, and would no longer be as unique as it had been.

Having to roll out an old design would be a low point for Ford, not to mention we would all be laughed at by the GM guys because Ford can't design something new. That said, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

on the flipside...

there are a boatload of aftermarket parts being built for the 65-70 Mustangs. It can be totally feasible in about 10-15 years, when restorable mustangs run out, that someone will offer Mustang reproductions or kit cars.

The same can be said for the 55-57 Chevy's. You can get practically all the sheetmetal in the aftermarket. All it will take is a firewall, roof and frame.

This would never happen. The car would never pass safety tests.

well how can you sell '32 Fords and Cobras as kit cars? ... it would be something along the same lines. These cars neither have airbags or emission controls...
