I have been playing around with the fun info on the electronic guage. The one I watch the most is the MPG readout. I usually reset that along with the "Gallons Used" when I fill up with gas. After the tank is empty, I check the readout again to see what MPG I ended up with.

I've done this several times and the numbers are all over. My weekly driving is pretty routine and varys slightly, but I've gotten everything from 14.2 MPG to 22.1 MPG. Anyone else notice this or know how accurate that guage is?

I checked my mileage against the gauge for the first two months and it was pretty much dead on accurate.

The best I've seen is a 15.5MPG seems to hang out in the 14's mostly. I reset it after every tank, It seems to slowly get better on each tank of gas, but it still blows

I think it is pretty accurate though, and at $1.05 a litre at the moment I wish it was broken, so I didn't know how much gas I was using

Mine was in the high 13's to low 14's when it was new, but creaped up slowly as it broke in.

I was wondering that myself. In the Owners Manual it talks about how it can throw the results off if you fill up someplace where it's not completely level. That will throw off how much gas you can put in your tank and thus throw off your results.

I first thought I was getting really good mileage with my V6, then I noticed that it said MPH in the message center, not MPG. I'd been looking at the average speed, not miles per gallon! Errr! :bang:

I'm only getting about 18 MPG right now with about 50% highway driving. I'm hoping that it will get better after the engine has had a chance to get broken in.....

The reason it's all over the place is, if you reset it after every tank, it has little history to base fuel consumption on.

If you leave the miles per gallon be over a long period of time, it takes a while for it to change around, as the average is more set in stone.

I’m not sure if I explained it very well. Think of an average of anything, with more raw data it takes more to shift the actual average.

I have been checking the MPG very time I fill up and it has been between 17.5 and 18.0 MPG. That is about right for city driving.

I haven't reset mine, and so far after 1000 miles I'm getting 17.1 or 17.2 still haven't hit the sticker low of 18, hehe

I'm in the 18s with an avg speed of 33mph.

12,000+ km on my car and I average 23-24 mpg. I keep track of when I fill up and calculate what I should be getting. It is very accurate. You cannot reset it everytime if you want an accurate reading. Only time I notice it is not very accurate is after I had too much caffine and drive around like a maniac. I see my mpg drop significantly and can take at least 1 1/2 tanks of gas before it gets back to normal

Wow! How fast do you guys drive to get an average of 80 MPH? No, my average was 25 MPH, that's why I thought it was MPG......

I took a little mini vacation 2 weeks back and stayed out of the gas as much as I could after calculating my milage I got 23.5 for the trip. Went a little over 400 miles and did 60 most of the trip.

Good point there, Altoid. I'll let the MPG go for awhile and see if it makes a difference.

There's a pretty wide range reported on the MPG Poll thread

Post your comments and take the poll. It started as a way to get people to 'fess up to their heavy footed habits. But, it's interesting that people are getting such a wide range of mileage.
