Hit horn, hood pops?
Yesterday we were taking the Mustang for a little drive and we had a car pull out right in front of us. I was on brakes and no where near an accident but I still blew the horn just to let the driver know I was there .... and when I hit that horn button, the hood popped up.
Safety latch caught it, but what a freak thing? Never before seen such. Stopped, opened hood and shut well, no more issues. |
Scared the crap out of your hood?

Ha what Mike said. It was just getting out of the way. Total coincidence I'm sure. Did you try to replicate the situation?

bet it was hard braking, coincidence on the horn... maybe the latch had just barely caught, and distortion from hard braking pulled the core support a few thou, enough to pop it...
worry-wart I am, I'd inspect the frontend- just to make sure subframe bolts are all snug, no cracks in paint around fender bolt heads that might indicate flexing, etc... dont have a shaker do you? a soft motor mount might let the engine slide forward 1/4" or so under severe braking- especially on a rough road- where it might 'bump' the hood? probably just a sticky latch, hard braking, maybe on a bumpy road... I had a 71 LTD in highschool, forgot to put my hoodpins in one day- felt like the frontend rose up a foot as the hood caught air, just before the corners broke the windshield- scary thing... my 06 has hood pins- umm, but I kept the latch this time :) |
