Ok I have been hearing about the MAC cold air induction kit. It helps the engine breath better, right? How much of a performance increase is there on the 2005? There are versions that go in the fenderwell and some that sit in the engine. Why are there two different versions? Personal preference, cosmetic, performance?
Thanks for the insight!

You wont really get a solid answer to explain the difference between the two because no one really knows for sure (performance wise). Me personally, I'm not a big fan of the CAI (and Mac = :notnice: ) I would just get a K&N for now and worry about the CAI until after you have gotten most of the other bolt-ons.

The CAI in the engine bay pulls in more and warm air. The fenderwell pulls in more and cold air. If you get one get the metel arm to not allow for flex like the plastic does and get the fenderwell, I "felt" a diference in my 04.

I didn't see anything from K&N, but I googled and saw this
http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/fcar/coldairmac.htm
but that is for the older body style. I haven't seen anything for the 05 style.

Oh yeah baby all that lovely heat soaking metal.
I think possibly the biggest benefit from a CIA is smooother flow rather than cold air. One of the reasons the OE's went with pastic intakes was in part due to the thermal insulating qualities of plastic, and the ability to get a more precise shape and finish on the manifold.
