Ok,
I got my GT in early May.
I never intended for this car to be a daily driver.
Since I have gotten her, I can not leave her alone.
I have 3000 miles in less than 3 months.
This car is so much fun to drive.
Yesterday, I took her to my dads (about 35 miles) and put her away.
I will not be driving her for a while.
I got my '66 out and will enjoy her in the mean time.
I will get the GT out for a couple of weeks before the snow flys and ride her hard before she goes into the stable for the winter.
It wasn't an easy thing to do, but it was necessary.
Anyone else having the same dilema?

The cars made to be driven, if its given proper maintenance it should last indefinately. May have to replace this or that eventually but with all due respect, it's not like it's a one off collecter car.
I enjoy driving mine every day, even on days I got no place to go to and plan to drive it for a very long time.

I remember back when I was in high school, me and a buddy would look in the classified's for cool cars and go look at them for the fun of it. Not indending to buy anything. One time we went to see a '67 mustang vert, it was on blocks in a guys garage. The car was 12 years old at the time. It had 750 miles. His son bought it right out of high school, drove it for a couple of months and got drafted to 'nam. He never came home. He was asking 1200 for it, but said he'd take a grand.
Of coarse I didn't have any money and I felt really bad for the guy.
I remember that the car was completely original.
The tires were rotted on the rim and the belts and hoses were the same.
Anyway. I remember how I felt about that car having so few miles on it.
That has stuck with me like it happend yesterday.
I intend on keeping my car and giving it to one of my kids someday.
They can drive it however they wish.
I've had my '66 for 6 years and haven't put 3000 miles on it.
I'm too darn finicky to let it get beat up through everyday wear and tear.
Just my twisted outlook on things I guess.
And you never know about collector status.
The original Mustang was indended to be a throw away car, never a collector.

My car arrived Nov 2004. It currently has 20,678 km on it. I drove it in the winter but after all of my mods I will not drive it during the winter ever again. However, it will still be a daily driver and most likely will get 30-40,000km a year on her.

ponyboy, I'm sorry to hear about your car. Unfortunately, I go through the same thing. I put on 4k miles in 4 months... and I bought this to have a nice 'spare' car. I didn't buy this car for the great ride, I bought it because it's like the perfect piece of art. Beautiful, Sculptured, Powerful, Nostalgic, and functional all at the same time. It's something I want to keep for a long time. I keep it in my garage, but started parking my company car directly behind it. That way, it's a pain in the butt to move a car, just to drive the 05 to the store, etc. I had a car cover on it for a few days, but had to take it off because I go out in the garage nightly and stare at in... sometimes in disbelief that it's mine. Other times I'll just go out in it, fire it up, and listen to the radio for 15 mins or so. I've always wanted an old muscle car, I kind of feel like I have one now, but at least I know that I will have one in the future.

Coming up on 9 months old, two miles a day is the average on our O5 GT. The first Sweet vehicle that we have not driven daily and watch go to crap. I long to drive it a lot, but we just want one in total excellent condition for our enjoyment. The weather and schedules have kept us from doubling the miles. If the Shelby is something worth having at a fair price, which I expect a huge mark-up, then GT may become a daily.

ponyboy66,
Great men and women have given their lives to keep our freedoms that young man that left his 67 Mustang would IMHO tell you to drive, drive, drive when you can, it’s the best expression of freedom again respectfully IMHO.
You know what I’m full of , freedom to doing what you want that’s what many have fought for if you like to put it up go for it.
Thanks for sharing a great story.

To each their own. Dive it, park it, whatever you feel you need to do.
Mine was delivered 4/28 and it has 8400 miles on it. I bought the car to drive it. It begs to be driven and I would be doing it a severe injustice by not doing so. When its worn out, I'll get another.

I promised myself that I would keep the miles less than 5000 per year. I, too, want to keep this car forever, and dont want a lot of miles on it. But, I am ahead of schedule already this year, oh well!! Too much fun to drive....

You say you want a car in total excellent condition for your enjoyment, but you can't enjoy the car as much if you only drive it 2 miles a day. I'd say go drive the ish out of that thing and have some fun! You only live once. :drive:

To each his own . . . . mine is a daily driver . . . . 3500 miles since 05/28/05.
152 miles a day/5 days a week (at the minimum) commuting back and forth to work and other adventures as assigned.
I drive it today because . . . it makes me happy! That and the fact that . . . . tomorrow may never come.
Life is short . . . I'll enjoy mine to it's fullest while I have it .

3300 miles in 3 months here... it's my daily driver but I also hate putting this kind of mileage on my car
