I didn't notice until later that the VOC I signed off on was order number 9999, priority 99 and with Smith for the customer name.
I have no idea what can be so important that a manager didn't have time to do it with the customer, unless they don't have them properly trained and everything filters down to just the one guy they showed how to use the computer....But if they were already in concepts that possiblility is moot.

I agree 100%, I'm just referring to the "Concept". Get it? CONCEPT! I actually had a bootleg copy of the '07 order guide from my buddy in Dearborn. I was more familiar with it than the guys in the showroom. They were more concerned about how I got a copy of the order guide than they were about actually reading it to see I was right. We went around in circles for about 1 1/2 hours about the avialability of Mobile Ease in a Mustang.

I wouldn't expect any salesperson to be familiar with every vehicle's order guide. Go through the F-series guides sometime and see what salespeople are up against. Its not super-secret info anyway, but you need to talk to salespeople that have some months/years of tenure. 70% of the salespeople you talk to wont make it at the dealer for any length of time(at any dealer).

People who come in to order cars are one-car experts; just the ONE car THEY want. I am humble enough that if someone is ordering an 08 F250, they are going to be a bit more on the 8-ball. You can't know everything, but you should never assume anything as a salesperson. Particularly at Ford where everything changes constantly. Mastering the Ford incentives and vehicles is a college level education in product knowledge(actually its harder then any static college class I ever took). If you're a Ford Mr Wizard I will give you 15 seconds to tell me the brand and size spare used on a F350 XLT Sport 4x4 6.4 with the 20" wheel package...Or how bout an easy one, how much does an LCF tow with a 14' cube body? How many more cubic feet does an Expedition EL now have behind the third row seat? Can I get the Aluminum 18" wheels with an SEL AWD Edge or do I need to get an SEL plus, And can I get the panoramic roof with Cloth? Does the Hybrid Escape with nav loose the information display screen on the center of the dash??

I would also let them do it. You can't take the chance of missing out on the Redfire with Nav. I hope they are very careful with your center console and all the parts we know can scratch.

It's simple. The sales manager is a jerk. He treats his salesman like idiots and won't talk directly to customers. He thinks all customers are stupid. It's that simple. I literally was sitting about 6 feet from him and the salesman had to be the "go between". I can't tell you how many times he said something along the lines "that stuff you find on the internet isn't accurate" and "you don't know what you're talking about". It was absolutely amazing. After I discovered they goofed the order they wouldn't admit to it. They insisted it was ordered correctly and would come in as I requested. When I walked in with the window sticker a week before the car's build date they finally realized I wasn't such a schmuck after all. Maybe I DO know what I'm talking about and maybe I DO have someone competent checking the status on the other end. When I re-ordered the car I sat over the bastard's shoulder while he entered the order!

Yeah, some people really do prefer the plain black interior. Can't abide it myself. The porno red really "lifts things up."

Wow,

What a soap opera thread. As I read through, I was going to type, "that sucks, sorry man", but then the thread turned around and things look better. So I guess, congrats?
Anyway. Hope it all works out to your liking/satisfaction.

Next, the document when to the sales manager who reviewed it, and had to approve it before they would take my deposit check.

Then it went to the "order guy" who I do not think was in everyday of the week. He had to then take the information off the form, and enter it into the Ford ordering system (computer system). He printed off a sheet - 2 pages if I remember - and my salesman reviewed it.

It really was 2 or 3 days before I was able to see a Ford computer system generated document that I could personally review for completeness.

My salesman -- who in fact was the dealership's Ebay guy because he was computer savy -- said the dealership would not allow him or any other salesman to enter orders into the system directly.

He also used his own email account for business and not a Ford.com or a dealership.com address.

It was a joke. They're in the dark ages.
As I have often said, I think Ford would be wise to raise the minimum standards throughout its dealer network. Some are buffoons who still live in the Dark Ages; some don't give a rat's a$$ about the customer; and some are really courteous and helpful.

It's already at the dealership. Seen it, inspected it, checked stuff out. Seems good.

They're gonna swap the red interior bits into it tomorrow.

There are a lot of people not getting the orientation of numbers in your dates You would think that the first date is obviously not the 31st month of the year and the rest would make sense...

Nah, no rants. I'm all ranted out.

No one listens anyway.

When I was looking at the car today, though, I did notice an odd, faint crackling sound coming from behind the gauge cluster after turning on the lights. Even after turning them off, it would still crackle for a bit.

Oh, well, I ain't gonna worry about stuff like this unless it starts smoking or bursting into flame.

Supper time more likely.

I was back at the dealer tonight to have a closer look at the car, and play with the techno-gadgets. Pretty sweet overall. The Mobile Ease (despite its odd placement on the passenger side of the dash) seems to work quite well and integrates nicely into the NAV system (which comes up "phone" when using the Mobile Ease). The Mobile Ease fob is also back lit, which is awesome for night use. The satellite radio is alot cooler than I thought it would be. Pretty wicked being able to listen to BBC1 from anywhere in North America!

And I'm pleased to report that the iPod auxillary input on the NAV/stereo works brilliantly!

The combination of the NAV with the dark applique and the red interior and the solid aluminum shift ring with aluminum bezel looks really, really sharp, IMHO. I am very impressed with the visual presentation of the package I ordered.

The other manager who was in tonight reiterated that the NAV package probably won't be available on the '08 Stangs, as the supplier just doesn't have enough to cover the entire Ford model range.
