Front Brake Upgrade?

Hoping some one can gimme the 411 on trying to piece together an upgrade kit for my front brakes of my 08 GT.

I have 18x9 wheels, and as such I think I should only be looking at 14" rotors. (Is this correct?)

Would love to pick up a clean set of used GT500 calipers.

What is a good price for these used, which years should I stick with to make sure I'm getting the ones designed for the 14" rotors?

What else do I need to get with them to use them on the front of my 08GT?

Is it possible to use calipers from the more modern brembo package cars?

What all would I need to make those calipers work?

Thanks :-)

I'm sure you've looked at it but just in case here's a link to some brake kits, both regular and big brake kits. Prices range from $349 to well over 3 grand depending on what you want.

post a pic or two of the wheels on your car? This is one of the things on my mod list but it is low on the low on the list

Yea, hoping to pic up some used gt500 calipers and pic up some new slotted rotors and pads to fit when the time comes. Since I'm buying used I wanted to make sure I knew what I needed to buy for it to work.

They are 18x9 2010+ style GT500 from American Muscle.

I guess my biggest question is do I need different bracket to fit the larger rotors with GT500 calipers or if the caliper itself accommodates for this.

I'm betting you will need the bracket. My biggest question is how much of a difference will there be in stopping distance?

Looking back at magazine testing for both our GT and the gt500. I looked at edmunds and car and driver.

The GT 60-0 was in 120 ft.
The GT500 60-0 was 117ft.

And we all know how much more the GT500 weighs. I imagine in our lighter GT the distance would be even shorter.

Well I run SCCA Autocross with my SC 07 GT/CS. I've changed to SS brake lines, EDC dimpled and slotted rotors, dot 4 brake fluid, and Hawk pads. I also run a 10 x 18 square setup on my wheels. I really wouldn't want to stop any quicker or harded than I do now. I also have many more mods to help me in the autocrosses.
I've looked at bigger brakes but you have to watch for rim clearance on almost all of them.

I wonder how much of a difference the big brake kits make in the whole "rotating mass" equation for the car?

I think if I tracked the car a lot I would be more inclined to upgrade the brakes. I'm sure there's less fade and more control after they heat up
