Extra Horsepower??
Hi guys! Im new on here! Got my mustang a few months back and I LOVE it! Anyway im looking to do a few mods, and i was wondering what do you guys think is the best way to get a few extra hp?

#1 easiest, most popular, and cheap mod is a Cold Air kit and Tuner. Check out the popular tuners www.bamachips.com and www.brenspeed.com. Also if you look around there are others, just those are the two that seem to get the most business from these boards.

Just be aware that a number of people around here have reported problems after doing that: i.e. the car dying during high speed runs; PCM glitches leading to weird codes on the Shaker radio display, etc.

Whaaaaaaaay more positive results than negative, however, I always advise conducting your own research on any performance mods. Throw a set of axle backs on there... It may not yield any horsepower, but it'll sound like they did...

Now the improved throttle response - THAT seems to be the bigger prize in doing a CAI + tune.

I didn't like the improved throttle response, because it made the throttle seem like an "on/off" switch. It felt too sensitive to me, especially when trying to just cruise at a constant speed. It was either accelerating or decelerating...no constant.

Fact is, a stock GT is plenty fast enough for the street as it is. I mean, think about it: take the fastest production Stangs between 1967 and 1972...the current GT will handily spank any of them, stock vs. stock - and is probably faster than 80% of the modern cars currently on the road today.

I agree. All I have is an exhaust and a K&N filter, and the car is plenty fast, way enough for me. Sure, more power can be nice (as long as the car is still driveable), but once you're going 60 [or whatever the speed limit is], it doesn't matter how much horsepower you have.
I drive I-95 all the time, and I always see little Chevy cavaliers, Ford Focus's, and other little 4 cylinder cars flying by me going at least 85 in a 70 zone. So, it obviously doesn't matter how much power you have, cause once your going your limit, all you need is "crusing power".

danny1305 wanted to know how to add some extra HP to his mustang, not whether or not it had enough already. Being a satisfied customer of a C&L CAI and a tune from BamaChips (with NO PROBLEMS whatsoever), I'd highly recommend the tune and CAI for a quick gain in HP.

I've got a K&N intake and tune from Bamachips and haven't had any problems. It's the easiest and best performance mod out there for the price. Don't let the nay sayers convince you otherwise. I've got an auto and the improvement overstock is unbelievable. FYI I've run against stock auto and stick GT's at the track and have been a full second faster. On that note I've also had a 5speed with no mods other than ET streets run only a tenth of second slower.

I have the C&L from Brenspeed. I'm about to strap on a Saleen supercharger. So if you want to wait a while I'll be selling my C&L
Brent is awesome... the tunes he provides are awesome and the only problem I've had with the C&L is wiping the permagrin off my face when I hit the gas!
As for the HP gain. I picked up 33 hp and about 30 tourque on a Dynapack dyno. I'm in California and we don't even have 93 octane so if you are in an area with better gas you will probably yield even better results because your timing can be increased.
