Door drain holes

Do these black plastic pieces serve any purpose? Are they supposed to keep big chunks from blocking the holes.

They move and allow water out but were they supposed to be removed at dealer prep time?

Never thought about it until now.

Thanks

one or two of mine fell out.

ONLY thing I could think they MIGHT be for is windnoise reduction- other that that slight possibility, they look to me like debris blockers to expedite rusting out :)

among many other things for rust resistance, taking them out I think would be a good idea :)

It's more a 'finish' thing than anything else, if you ask me. As in "we can't just have a *hole* there... that looks... not right. Here, put these on. They'll make it look less.. (naked!) ...unfinished. (same thing!)

/bonus intarwebs for gettin' the reference.

I'll check in here, just to see if someone really knows. Come on Ford people........

I took mine off.:dunno:

Hmm - One would think that they serve a purpose or they wouldn't put them there. At least I hope so.

I see both sides. They keep big stuff out and keep stuff that should get out..in. They are below the door seal so they might be designed to keep the crud out of the drain holes that gets kicked up from the tires.

Dunno. :dunno:

Wind noise.. Makes sense too.

I just might ask the parts guys next time at Ford to look them up and see what they are called. Probably somethng uber technical like a drainplug check valve or windnoise reduction widget.

I believe it's a Flux Capacitor! :nice:

I removed mine...

cave diver 10/7/09 01:36 PM

All they do is trap debris and water and allow the door bottoms to rust. I removed mine within the first month.

If your Mustang is a year old or so just pop one of them out after you wash the car and you'll see the crap and water that is trapped in there.
