Dealer and Tune/Intake Question

I have a 2005 Mustang GT and I want to take my car into a dealer, I have a Tillmanspeed Tune and a C&L Racer. What do I need to do to be able to take it into the dealer? Should I put the stock tune and intake back on? Im taking it into the dealer for a problem with the CD player so they won't be looking at the engine, I don't think.

I take mine in as is all the time.
Never a worry.
Of course, I've never gone in for anything even remotely related to an intake problem.
I even tell them to be sure and not reflash as I have a performance tune.
They don't flash it or wash it, and I even went there for the 4.10 install.

Depends on your dealer.

I think I left some information out before, im going in for something covered by warranty. Since im going in for something covered by warranty should I put my car back to stock, or does an intake and tune not void the warranty if a dealership sees it?

Tell them not to open the hood. A CIA and tune didn't cause your CD player to fail.

There should be no way a dealer will reject a CD player under warranty for an aftermarket intake/tune. The only problem I could see is if you don't want them to know you have it, in case of future problems, they may either remember or make a note of it in your file.

ok so they can't refuse, or claim I voided the warranty, if they see the intake or the tune?

theedge67 11/11/07 07:38 PM

They can't refuse radio service, no. They have to be able to prove the intake/tune caused the problem. Now if you take it in for a malfuntioning throttle body with the CAI and tune still in place, you might be in for a fight. But anything obviously not related to your modifications, can't be denied.

ok thanks a lot, I was worried that it would void it 100% if they saw it and then i'd be screwed.

when I took mine in for them to check my exhaust hangers, I told them I had an aftermarket intake/tune, etc. Also told them to not flash the computer.

I asked them about warranty just to hear what they thought and all they said is the only thing that would be void is if the part is directly affected by the intake.

I sure as hell am not taking my intake on/off everytime I go to the dealer, although I am hoping I dont have to go often..knock on wood..

YES!!!!

Flash the car back to stock!

the CD radio unit is LINKED to the ECU. In order to calibrate the head unit (500 or 1000), getting into the ECU is a must!

I found this out going into the dealer to replace my shaker 1000 with a Ford Racing/Whipple tune, which was locked, and they could not calibrate the shaker 1000 unit unless they were able to unlock and touch the ECU. took them 3 hours to unlock it with every electronic gadget they had at the dealer, and the guy had me at the car the whole time they were trying to hook the new headunit up. I'm not even lieing about this, i made a post about it a while back. just about everything is linked to the ECU, including the headunit, for those with speedvolume, the faster you go, the louder your music plays?? but also anti-theft system and other components as well. yea well in order for those options to work, it has to read the car, and in order to read the car, its connected to the ECU!

here is my post from a while back:

http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showth...ghlight=dealer

any other warranty work like a oil change, or tire replacement, or even a TSB (fuel tank, strut replacement, anything non electronic ), I wouldn't worry about going back to stock to take it to the dealer

Luckydog827 11/12/07 08:34 PM

Im going in for one of the TSBs with the cd player. I have the C&L Racer, can I drive this with a stock tune?

theedge67 11/12/07 08:41 PM

NO. Switch the airbox back to stock. You will run lean with the stock tune and C&L intake, and that is BAD. Not only that, but you will get a Check Engine Light, and your car may enter Failsafe, or Limp Home mode... bad.

ah yeah thats what i figured i'd have to do. thanks!
