Definitely needs the cover to clean up the top of the engine. Kind of looks like my sons hair first thing in the morning (and mine for that matter). Its needs a nice hat to smooth it out and clean up the look.
Also it appears to be easily removed (4 fasteners) for detailing

i think it has to do with the fact that Ford AU builds all their engines by hand and that they love to have their engines stand out of the rest down there. Which kinda leads me to believe more and more that Ford North America just perfers to cheaping out on everything last minute. As we all know thats exactly what Ford has been doing here for the last 30 years.
Edit: And for a side note I've always loved the Boss 290 and Boss 280 that they use in the Falcons down there. I've also wondered why they don't make a special edition and use the Boss 290 in it... *cough* Boss 290 Mustang *cough*

Sorry, but I had to comment on this subject.
I have personally observed the 05 with and without the cover.
My first thought when I saw the engine WITHOUT the cover was......
What is this? A cheap piece of plastic for an intake? Thought of melting plastic running thru my head.... preceded by.... Do I really want a high performance engine that is dependent on a piece of plastic?
My first thought when I saw the engine WITH the cover was......
OH SWEET!!! (followed by the wiping of drool from my face) This is going to be mine! (Long pause dreaming of all good Mustang things ) I cant wait to show everyone my engine. B)
The way the engine looked spoke these words to me:
"I'm strong, I'm proud, I'm a MUSTANG!!

Thanks for asking...I was going to post something. According to the Ford engineer, a number of his co-workers also found the posts here. They are sharing the information internally to see what the response will be. He committed to informing me at some point when he hears a decision.
Keep your fingers crossed!

Hey guys, This is my first post here at MustangSource, Im a regular at Stangnet.... so howdy
But anyway i would LOVE the ford Engineers to listen to us and include the engine cover... if it helps im in college and my Engineering professor use to work for ford as an engineer
EDIT: Also most of the college kids no nothing about cars and just look for the shiny things when you pop the hood.... so if they see the cover (which is all shiny) ..... wow its a shiny engine must be powerful! haha but seriously i plan on making this a show car and having ford including the engine cover is a PLUS

:nono: Hmmmmm ...Just a thought
I'm guessing there are thousands of press kits released at multiple car shows with over 100 photos and renditions between the CD and brochure.
The CD has 10 renditions of the engine. Only 1, the V-6, is without the cover.
The brochure has 3 depictions of the engine, one’s a double page layout, all prominently displaying the “Powered By Ford w/Running Horse” cover.
Not to mention multiple articles and FoMoCo sites showing the cover…. Would this potentially fall under the guise of "bait and switch" for pre-ordered units? Is this opening up a Pandoras Box of potential liability and legal issues for false advertising?
I assume that between the Bean Counters, Ad Execs and Leagal Beagals they've figured out the cost effectiveness, customer satisfaction, Brand Labeling and truth in advertising issues. Interesting?... who knows .... we'll see in a few months.
