Clutch pedal

Question in regards to hydraulic clutch. I just purchased 2005 Mustang. The clutch pedal seems very hard to push in. Is this normal for 2005? Only has 29000 miles on the car. I don't believe the clutch is bad. Works fine just hard to push. Any ideas to help relieve my leg pain?

You're correct, with the exception of maybe a higher 'stage' clutch, unnecessary in an otherwise stock car, but it's higher force would have more pressure needed to counteract.

Issues could be:

The brake fluid is not right in the lines in some way. A bleeding of the clutch with new fluid (disconnect as transmission end, let bleed/use a vacuum pump to pull fluid, ensure fluid is topped of, but keep mind of the level and don't fill over where it is when you start this operation, or when you redo the brakes you'll have too much...) might be of help, but I'm not leaning that way...

Your clutch pedal assembly could be a problem.

Your clutch master cylinder could be a problem.

Your throwout bearing/slave cylinder could be a problem.

Your clutch could be a problem.

Possible something else could be a problem, but I'm not sure what, thems pretty much it...

The real problem is this: Without proper inspection, I'm throwing darts, or more correctly, using a shotgun to try to diagnose it. If you don't know/can't figure it out, you need to take it to a mechanic. If your car is hurting you, it's definitely not right, and well worth the diagnosis fee.

Hope that helps, good luck, and welcome to the forums! :nice:

My old 05 clutch pedal started getting hard to push a 45,000 miles. It was the clutch slave cylinder. Of coarse I had to remove the transmission to change it and I'll say it wasn't a fun job on just jack stands.
