327 gears in both V6 auto and manual, and in the GT auto
355 in the GT manual ...I think... edit: whoops, I guess you meant trans. gears, not rear gear ratios... :dunno: |
I'm not asking for AXLE RATIOS ... this is already mentioned in various places ...
V6 Auto & Manual and GT Auto ... 3.31:1 GT Manual ... 3.55:1 I want to know the ratios of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th of the Transmissions themselves ... curious as to IF they have changed from prior years. Since the Auto box is a new for 2005 5-Speed, how do the ratios comare to earlier Mustang 4-Speeds ?? For example ... when the new 1999 model came out, the 3.27:1 Ratio Rear Axle became standard across the board (prior V6's had 2.73:1, GT's had 2.73:1 or 3.08:1). This was a big change for the V6, so Ford also changed the manual trans ratios to better work with the 3.27 rear axle. '94-98 V6 T5 ... 1st: 3.35:1, 2nd: 1.93:1, 3rd: 1.29:1, 4th: 1.00:1, 5th: 0.73:1 '99-04 V6 T5 ... 1st: 3.35:1, 2nd: 1.99:1, 3rd: 1.33:1, 4th: 1.00:1, 5th: 0.68:1 '94-?? GT T5 ... 1st: 3.35:1, 2nd: 1.99:1, 3rd: 1.33:1, 4th: 1.00:1, 5th: 0.68:1 '99-04 GT T5 ... 1st: 3.37:1, 2nd: 1.99:1, 3rd: 1.33:1, 4th: 1.00:1, 5th: 0.67:1 '94-?? V6/GT Auto ... 1st: 2.40:1, 2nd: 1.47:1, 3rd: 1.00:1, 4th: 0.67:1 '99-04 V6/GT Auto ... 1st: 2.84:1, 2nd: 1.56:1, 3rd: 1.00:1, 4th: 0.70:1 ** Data is from Super Ford November 1993 and Corral.net "1999 Mustang Unveiling" article from September 1998. I've never kept as tight of tabs on the GT's, so I don't know if Ford kept the same ratios from '94-98 or if there was a change when the 4.6L came out in '96. From the November Motor Trend article, they mention "close 1-2-3 gearing" on the new 5-Speed Automatic, but don't state what the ratios are !! A final drive ratio of 2.35 is also mentioned ... divide this by the 3:31 axle and that gives us the 5th gear / overdrive ratio of 0.7099:1. Other than this, I have seen no mention of actual transmission gear ratios. Doug |
Looks like its similar to shifting from 2nd. gear to 4th. in a manual. No wonder it dogs out
