2009 Door Ajar Latch Issue
2009 Door Ajar Latch Issue
So these last few days I've been having issues with the door latch assembly on the drivers side of my vehicle. Each time I open the door, the vehicle isn't registering that the door is open, and causing the window to stay up. I'm worried about damaging the window so I've been driving with it cracked, but I'm about to have to park it tomorrow in a garage due to the rain, and it's currently my only form of transportation to and from work.
I have tried recalibrating the window to see if that was the issue but it didn't fix my problem. I went ahead and took the door panel off and removed the door ajar switch to manually test whether or not it worked, and it seems like the switch and wiring all work fine. Somewhere between the door latch and the switch is where my problem is, and unfortunately the door latch is discontinued by ford and there are no aftermarket manufacturers for this latch. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, were you able to find a fix for this? I even tried spraying a bunch of rust penetrant to see if something had seized up inside the latch, but I've had no luck.

Ebay Away!
In the Mean Time Maybe Drop Window enough to Get in & Out And Unplug Window Motor.

Was Never a Fan of the Drop Down Window. Knew Someday it would be a PIA!
Just to Be Safe I would Stick with One Out of an 08-09. Some Earlier And Later May Work But I like That this one is Out of That Year Spread. One Listing Says it Fits 05-14 But I'm Erring on the Side of Caution!
If Anyone has Had Luck Using one out of a 10-14 Please Chime in. They are Still Available.

The way these things are engineered, it's a PITA if they *don't* drop down. Either way it's kinda (siphons with a great amount of negative pressure)-y.
The way the switch is integrated into the bottom of the latch is the biggest stupid of the whole thing. One almost says "You know the old school door closer buttons? Retrofit that into the S197 if this happens!"
I'd probably do it so it's on the door side though and not the door sill... if possible...
Just seems that if the latch is otherwise fine and the switch goes out that's just unfair of Ford to discontinue the thing, but that's manufacturers for ya these days. Cheapening the cars through integration then obsoletion so that you give up and buy a new one.
Good luck OP. And good luck to us all.
