2006 GT spoiler removal

Hi everyone - new to forums and hoping to get some advice.
Had my spoiler removed a few weeks ago as a result of a car wash mishap. Bottom line, I really like the look without the spoiler.
However, I temporarily have the holes plugged with four nylon plugs that
I purchased from Home Depot, and also used some rubber silicone around them on the trunk lid interior. Yesterday was the first true test of my work (ie: all day rain) and this morning I discovered that the bottom of my trunk felt somewhat damp....so, it was apparently a failure.
Until I have cash to have the holes professionally filled, any other advice?
Has anyone else had success in doing this, and if so, what did you use?

Apply caulk or silicone under the head of the plugs or around the holes on the top side of the trunk lid. Push your plugs into the holes and clean up excess caulk from around the plugs. My trunk is bone dry.
