2006 GT Rust

Hello all, and Merry Christmas! So, my 06 GT has spent a good portion of its life on the west coast of Florida. I think the salty air has taken its toll. Do these rust issues look severe enough to start replacing parts?

Hello,

Being From Central California Rust is Not a Big Issue Here and I would think we Should Have Some Good Options from Other Rust Area Mustangers. I have Included a Link to a Tool which Should be Great for Some De Rusting Under the Vehicle and Also Cleaning Up The Rear Axle. Ford Did not Put any Protection on the Rear Axle and it Shows. Personally I would at Least Pull the Diff and Clean up and Protect it.

I think you are at a Point Where Most Can Be Saved as Long as Bushings & Joints are Not Worn Out. If So Might as Well Replace. Pics are Great But Not Conclusive. On a Side Note I'm not a Fan of the Oil Based Coatings Out there but is Just Me!

You Members who have Had Personal Experience with this Issue Please Chime in! Lots of Youtube Vids on Dealing with Rust on undercarriage out there. Watch But Take with a Grain of Salt to what Feels Right.

KC

From the images posted, it doesn't appear to be any rust thru on any of the undercarriage components... Therefore, I would just clean up any loose rust and then apply some POR-15 rust prevent coating... I've attached a link below if interested...

Meanwhile, also "Merry Christmas" to you and yours as well

Knowing the OP is from Florida, his rust issues are nothing compared to being exposed to road salt in the north east and mid west during the winter months

Merry Christmas All! I like the spray on rust killer type stuff. I Think it runs into places a brush cant get to sometimes. Wire brush that stuff and spray it with some Rust-Oleum Stops Rust goodness. Pick up a couple ramps if you dont have them all ready. Better than jacking

Merry Christmas to you too. I live in Canada and the salt that they spray on the roads is awful. So I know a thing or two about rust haha.
I have to agree Por-15 is awesome stuff but you'll have to make sure that all the rust is off or dead before putting it on IIRC. Could be wrong about that.
Another good product I like to use to get rid of rust is
Krud Kutter The Must For Rust Water-Based - Rust Remover Gel
Stuff is great and you can use a paint brush to move it around and get it everywhere. Let it sit for a bit and then spray it off with a hose or something.
Then spray paint it with Anti rust paint and then with Rust Cure Formula 3000 to really protect it. Stuff will stay on the part for at least a year and protect it.
