The Sickness Project: Updates
Just to refresh your memories here's the wreck (21 JAN 2005)

After taking my car to Special Vehicle Productions for the repairs, my car slowly went from a wreck fix to an all out project.
Here we began the tear-down ...

a shot of the stock 03 engine and trans

Here you can see where I split the frame rail on impact, so you know what that means...

Now you see them ...

And now you don't ...

The interior had to come out for welding, so we took the liberty of making plans for some interior/audio upgrades.

Now comes the rebuilding process ... the new rails

New quarter panel ..

A closer look at the new quarter ... :cool2:

Engine bay painted and cleared with new color...

If you're curious about the color, its not black
its a subaru color that looks black but when the light hits it the lines of the car come out as a deep metallic blue.
The engine and trans are going back in tomorrow along with the new front suspension.

Yeah SVOPaul's work at its finest. This car is going to be awesome
I don't know much about the Auto-Tranny in the '03, but
from what I've heard the 5sp Auto in the '05 is much better
than what was in previous Mustangs.
I don't know if a swap is possible or not, but if my car was
in that state I believe I would give it a consideration before
it was put back together.
There have been several postings of wrecked '05s on the
2005 forum, you might be able to pick up the entire drive
train out of one of those if it's in your budget.
Also have you considered checking into a Griggs racing type
rear suspension setup?
Just a few thoughts, stuff I would consider if I were in your
position. Please keep us posted as to your progress.

You'd be surprised at how durable new technology can be. Yes, its not as strong as the good old iron block, but it makes up for it in the performance department by being lighter. Plus the 05 motors putting out a bit more power than the 03. The only thing I'd be worried about is that nitrous oxide...which has damaged many engines when used too extensively.
Keep up the good work TheSickness!
Nitrous is safe, if used properly and not gone into the overkill stage. The setup that TheSickness has is my old setup from my cobra. It is perfectly safe as long as he sets the rpm on/off at good levels and doesnt over do it.
The 3v motor is a stronger motor in the power sense. Also being lighter helps the car tremendously in the handling/braking/accel department. You arent going to make enough power on the stock internals to start worrying about the block. The rods or pistons will go way before you can think about splitting the alum. block.
the 99-04 4R70W tranny is acctually a very strong well designed auto tranny. Alot of guys are putting major power through them STOCK with just the addition of a tranny cooler. If I was in Jon's position, I would stick with the stock tranny with a Valve Body upgrade, a 2500 PI torque convertor and a BIG tranny cooler. He will need a retune to take advantage of this, but Doug904 (from this board, http://www.bamachips.com) has already tuned his car once and can easily do it to take advantage of any tranny/engine mods he's doing now, including the nitrous.

the 99-04 motor is stronger imo because it didnt have the aluminum block, and the 4R70W in his car is plenty strong, a good shift kit and you have a nice automatic.

Shift firmness is controlled by the chip. A chip only raises line pressure within the valve body therefore giving you quicker firmer shifts. Many of transmissions have failed under prolonged use this way. (i.e. get a dang cooler). Getting a modified valve body (I highly recommend researching the Jerry Mod, which was formed by the guy who designed the tranny as well as the same Jerry W. behind SCT) which gives a very detailed explanation on how to modify the valve body to allow for better shifts, reliability and many other things in the 4r70w. This helps the life of the tranny and also gives you teh ability to put more power through it. Check out http://www.tccoa.com for a great great tutorial on it all written by Jerry W.

buy the giggle gas and I'll get a cooler.
I'm having enough trouble coming up with the money to buy tires. :bang: moving = the broke

I really don't see the point in getting a shift kit since the shifts are controlled via the chip...

increasing line pressure on a stock tranny can blow it up overtime, a shift kit will not blow up a tranny, perfectly safe. my friends use the factory tech 4R70W valve body
Is that not what I said?

Looking great! I can't wait to see the finished product!
