As I was pulling out of my apartment complex this morning, as I put the car in reverse and pulled out, a horrible squeal came from the rear axle. Is this bad? Should I immediately take it to the dealer to have it looked at? what should I do?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If its under warrenty, I say take it in for them to check it. Something you should do though is pay attention to the spot you normally park in.. make sure there isnt any fluid build ups on the ground right about where the rear differential would be. That would be a sign of it leaking and low on fluid.

ok, thanks. I didn't think to look, but I will when I get back home.

Are you sure it was not just the rear brakes. I have heard some God awful sounds come from brakes, especially if they have sat awhile or have gotten wet...
just a thought.

yah, the brakes on alot of new vehicles are notorius for that.

I don't know how to tell, so I guess it could be that. I have looked at the concrete where I park and there are no puddles of an oily nature, so I don't think my differential is leaking

does it do it when u are rolling or stopping and u have your foot on the brakes or ??

hi_stik 4/21/05 02:36 PM

it only does it when I start up and start rolling out of the parking spot in the morning. And it's only done it twice.

my guess is brakes, has it been raining or damp over night where you are the mornings it made the sound?

i am thinking it is the brakes also, if possible, video it and post it

I have no video or photo equipment, so that is not an option. I live a sparse existence, for I only use a computer at work, not at home. I think I will visit the dealer tomorrow morning, and bring it up w/ them.
