Detroit lockers???

I have an 04 gt and was wondering if anyone knew anything about Detroit lockers. I looking for something like a true posi for my ford getting ready to put 4.10 gears in my rear end and was wondering about this and axles should I look into upgrading to the 31spline axles??

Is this a daily dirver also or does it see alot of a street driving. If so my vote is the detriot tru trac or eaton, much better for daily use. The locker isn't, not that they are bad but being a ratcheting diff they have a alot of backlash or slack so they are very noisy and clunky for starters when cornering and also odd feeling. So IMHO for almost all but hardcore apllications a good lsd is a good way to go. 31 spline, how much HP you pushing or future goals Hp wise, any boost, increased track time ?

Has anyone ever tried to use an ARB air locker in a car. Really it would seem the best of both to me. Open on the street for driveability and then locked at the track when it matters.

Had one in my GT1 road race car, it was great! Made the rear open when you backed off for a corner helping the car to turn in, as soon as you applied gas it would lock & go. Found mine to be very quite, but it was a full Winters quick change setup. If your going to road race the car & you can get a good deal on one I would say go for it. With lower gears you will most likely want better axles no matter what rear you install.

My truck has a locker and it is lowd and clunky and occasionally when your turning it will lurch or something and make you think "what in the hell did I just break!?"

I have an eaton Truetrac in my mustang and it's open when I need it to be and locked when I want it. (allot) I have zero complaints with my eaton Truetrac.

So my goal is 700hp it is a daily driver that see's a lot of strip/street I appreciate the advice on the Detroit lockers maybe it's not the way I want to go. I don't want all the noise coming from my rear end. Thank yall very much

I would without a doubt upgrade to 31 spline axles. Another choice for a differential would be an Eaton ELocker (http://www.eaton.com/Eaton/ProductsS...als/PCT_221472). According to the shop that built my rearend the ELocker will hold 700 HP (he has assembled many 8.8's with ELocker without any failure).
