Clutch Replacement Question
 

It's about time to replace the clutch on my '95 GT Convertible and would like to buy the parts myself. Most of the parts needed are obvious but would somebody please give me a list of all parts needed. I would rather replace instead of re-surface or machine items like the flywheel. I would do the job myself but I'm handicapped and unable to do the work. About the only recreation I can still enjoy is my Mustang. Thanks for taking the time to read this post & I appreciate any thoughts & help somebody could give.

Unless you're going for something more racy, I'm using the 'replace OEM style' version of this. Like ya say, some of it is obvious, but I'll just go through it anyway.

You may want to also get a pilot bearing:

There's nothing wrong with resurfacing the flywheel, but since you specifically stated your desires:

I'd get that because it comes with the quadrant, but they sell just the cable too.

Anything else the shop will have to tell you when they tear it down. Make sure they inspect your clutch fork for damage, and the bell housing too. Throwout retainer. They'll all probably be ok, but best to be sure. These can also be acquired if needed.

While they're doing this, now is the time to decide on your transmission mount, shifter, Ujoints/CVjoints on the driveshaft, yokes, etc... all of these can be looked at and your shop, reputable because you did your homework, can recommend if you need to replace them. They'll also tell you nitpicks like new bolts or whatever, but these things are done a lot all the time. They're pretty simple and straight forward, and usually only the above is what's needed to get the swap done and you back on the road, along with time, effort, and money. :)

Also, these are but suggestions, you need to do your own deciding on which parts and where you get them. Me, I'm so happy with my OEM clutch on my '06, I'm going to just get it again, and resurface the flywheel. 145,000 miles and still original and still hooking up. Not the same setup as your T5, but the idea is.

Thank you very much for your time. It's time now to go through & start pricing. I've Had good luck with Rock Auto so I'll start there first. One last question but since I have a cable clutch I do not have a clutch slave cylinder to replace as suggested by a friend I was talking to. They aren't cheap & I just want to make sure.

Nosir, there is no hydraulics. You have the clutch pedal, the quadrant which attaches to that, the cable which attaches to that, then the cable snakes through the firewall and down to the transmission where it's attached to a clutch fork, and that all when you press the pedal pushes the throwout bearing forward and disengages the clutch.

Footstrong clutches, those cars. :)

It was in 2005 when they changed that out for the hydraulic ones, and the friend is right. Not only does the clutch kit sans slave cylinder cost more overall, the slave cylinder's about 100 bucks added in.

Anyway, no, you don't have one of those.
