331 stroker question
I know I put a bunch of random questions on here but gotta learn some how....I'm doing a turbo and I'm gonna do forged internals down the road...and I went on dssracing.com and they have some nice stroker kits for a decent price with balancing for a little extra....so if I got a 331 with the stock bore (then itd be a 327) all I would have to do is hone out the block and I'd be good to go right?

Personally I would just get it bored so you can run the 331. I don't see much of a point in not. :dunno: |

Yeah but then I gotta pay the extra money to get it bored out...unless its not that expensive...

Not much more then getting it honed out.

Just remember the HP limits of the stock block when looking to stroke it and add boost. the block will split long before your internals, and a girdle isn't going to do chit. If your mindful of the boost levels your okay or go aftermarket/boss block. just my 2 cents worth.

That's another thing I don't get...if you boost you should run forged internals...but what's the point if the internals will outlive the block?

If you get the stroker kit using the same block, your block would split before the internals with boost.

No I mean just in general with the forged internals....because I've heard of plany people running boost on the stock block...so why do people say better switch to forged...even tho you guys just said stock internals outlive the block...I'm not trying to argue the fact because its obviously got a reason behind it f EVERYONE says it but I'm just trying to get a better understanding

the stock internals '85- early '92 used forged pistons, and forged rods. the cranks is pretty **** strong aswell. the '94-'95 has forged rods, same crank but cast pistons, the weak spot for alot of boost. the lower end will survive the blocks hp levels w/o a problem about 500-520ish crank. when going with an aftermarket block and building a higher hp motor or a boosted motor that will have higher hp levels then you would use stronger internals to support it. if you want strong internals you want the block to handle it, just like it makes no sense to spend money on a boss/world block when staying under the stock blocks safe hp levels. you build for what the needs are and if it is right on the line then go with the aftermarket block/internals.
