04 Mach 1 Possible Trade

Hey guys, I am currently an 07 S197 GT owner. I want some opinions about a possible trade to an 04 Screaming Yellow Mach 1. I love my 07 and have invested a lot of time and money into making my 07 unique but I have come across an 04 Mach 1 with 2500 miles. (No I did not leave off a 0) the car is showroom new. I have not owned a Mustang other than my 07. Just want to know what owners of Mach 1s have to say about them.

I plan on leaving the Mach 1 as close to stock as possible without getting totally bored with it. My 07 is getting close to 80k miles so I have decided not to invest any additional money in performance mods.

Any feed back about from the Mach 1 owners would be much appreciated.

Thanks

First off. I do NOT own or have ever owned a Mach 1.
However, my brother used to have an 01 GT and after that an 05 Saleen... and the difference between the two, according to me, were night and day. I LOVE the looks of the 03-04 Mach 1s but I like the way the 05+ drive. And when I say drive, I mean feel. Long hood, retro styling, PLUS THE INTERIOR!

Depending on how much you've put into your current mustang and how much you'll be positive or negative after the trade... that's where it would matter most. If anything, I'd almost look towards an 08 Bullitt. That way you can use some of your current modifications.

The Mach's are fantastic cars, and have a great resell value. The fit and finish may not be to the point of the S197 platform cars, but I know from personal experience, and others will agree, it's a better driving experience in the SN95 cars. The S197's feel a bit distant, but in my 04 it's a perfect feel, and so much fun in the mountains, plus the cars are a bit smaller.

As far as trading, it really depends on a lot of variables. How much you have invested into yours, what you're looking to do with the Mach, and how long you intend to hang on to it. I only see the prices of the Mach's going up, and Screaming Yellow is a quite rare color.

They are beautiful cars. The coolest part is how they chirp through gears, the shaker hood, the "hood bulge" from inside the cabin, the seats, flat black spoiler... Really Everything about it! I had an 04 Manual with Bassani x pipe black on black. I've never owned a more fun car. I miss it. Sadly, i didn't have it long. A car wash detail attendant wrecked it. You will fall in love with it.

Thanks for the input so far guys.

If you're bored with the 07, I would say make the deal. Like said before, it's a completely different driving experience. The new edge body is a lot more fun to drive. The S197 body is just a bigger more stable car and you can really feel the difference. In the long run, the Mach 1 will hold a better value also.

Yeah a buddy of mine has an 04 Cobra and said the same thing. Only 700ish Mach 1s were made in Screaming Yellow so the rarity of the color alone will help in the long term. My 07 GT is black and over 13,000 were made that year.

You get the shaker scoop for your 07. That us what I would do!

I'm not convinced the SN95 is a "better" driving experience.
I like mine and it is different and IOM a little less "tame" than my S197.
The Mach engine is a great feel and it would be a good move to get one with such low miles.
Of course IMO, get the Mach and keep the S197 too.:D

Lol yeah I wish I could afford both. I would just garage the Mach except for Car shows etc. Lol

Yes. Very less tame. The S197 is a great driving car. Very stable and safe feeling compared. Like you have to work to do a donut. Lol. The Mach1 and the cobras are just animals. Much more effort keeping them in the road which makes it an exciting drive every time. One main reason I won't step into a Shelby yet. The Shelby is more comfortable and capable of more power but just too refined. This is also why the fox bodies are still so popular. Not very strong but just a blast to drive.

If you love your '07 you might not like the Mach as much. It is much cruder. But that doesn't have to be a negative depending on how much you enjoy the older Mustang. I love mine and haven't found a newer model that I've taken to as much as my Mach. (A '12 Laguna Seca Boss has come real close.) But if you are going to leave it stock just be prepared for less refinement.

I have a thread about mine from purchase until now in this section and there is even a write-up about it from our own Scothew.

I'd get the Mach 1, but I'm biased. Personally, I think it looks better than almost every S197 and it's a lot more rare. I LOVE Screaming Yellow and those are really low miles. My Mach is my daily driver and I love seeing the shaker hood everyday. It gets attention everywhere I go.

And thanks to everyone's opinions.

I have a 2003 Mach 1 with several engine upgrades and almost "full suspension" and love it. I've driven an 08 Mustang GT and although the drive experience feels completely different I prefer a Mach 1 over it any day. It's a very well built and fun car

Tony Alonso 7/4/13 05:33 AM

My former Mach 1 was one of my absolute favorite cars. The engine performance is strong (great midrange torque), the shaker hood experience was fun, and the styling with that hood was a joy to view (both inside and outside the car). I agree with the others that there is quite a difference in the feel of the platforms, especially because of the interior packaging and overall size. I still miss mine, and will FOREVER miss mine. That said, I enjoy my 2010 as a daily driver more than the Mach.

Thanks again for the comments. Will post pics of mine once I have taken delivery

Great cars! I was a fox body owner and was not as big of fan of the SN95 until 99-04's came out. Very sexy cars. The Mach1's are perfect IMO for SN95 body style. I'd rather have a Mach then a Cobra. Mach's have good brakes, good seats and interior is better than the fox's. The 4V engines sound great with pretty much any aftermarket exhaust setup. And, there is a wealth of info about them on Mach1Registry.org.

Before I get blasted about Cobra's...I think the 03-04 Cobra's are the best Mustangs Ford has made since 65-70, I just prefer Mach's.

My S197's are 05-09. I think 2010 is when Ford should have changed body styles. Sorry, didn't mean to ramble on this thread. Lol
