This is what I wanna do. How do I do it

You will definitely need a bypass fuel pressure regulator to keep from blowing out all the seals out of the carb. If you have an auto, you will need to rig up a throttle position sensor to the carb, and have a tach signal from the distributor for it to shift properly. Possibly a bigger hood to clear the carb and air cleaner

The computer can still be used? And what happens with other things like fuel injectors and what not

bluethunderhorse Feb 8, 2013 11:56 AM

You will have to remove the injectors, the cam position sensor, maf, and most all of the electronics from the engine. If you have a 5 speed you could remove the computer, but the automatic is computer controlled and will still need some input from the engine to properly shift.

What about the motors computer

Blackout Feb 8, 2013 02:56 PM

What u mean by input

In all honesty, its not worth it. You more then likely will see little to no power gains. If you were building a motor for a drag car, then go for it, but if its a mostly street car then just stick with fuel injection.

For what you'd spend on that kit, minus a good carb, you could set up a good fuel system to handle a good amount of power.

Blackout Feb 8, 2013 03:32 PM

Yeah deff not worth it looking at 5.0 swap was my other option

Blackout Feb 8, 2013 03:59 PM

I'm stuck. If I knew how to change my motor to a carbed one that would be awesome I'd go all the way with it and be happy

Blackout Feb 8, 2013 04:00 PM

If I just had someone to show me how

Blackout Feb 8, 2013 04:15 PM

5.0 carburated or 5.0 efi

I wanna be able to do something this awesome

1999Pony Feb 8, 2013 07:16 PM

Anything is possible, just a matter or how much time and money your willing to put into it. The first one is a blown windsor engine (i assume a 302). Thats fairly simple, but depends on if you have state inspections or not.

I know its blasphemy.... but I personally think an LS1/t56 swap would be pretty awesome.

But remember, theres alot that goes into any swap or large increase in power in terms of supporting mods.

A turbo LS1 would be fricken awesome :metal:

Wonderin' why.

In a nutshell:

Remove *all* EFI from the car. If your car is an EAOD, you are also swapping that out right away, straight off, and getting a new driveshaft and/or yoke to make it all work.

Plonk said carb manifold on the engine, and the carb of your choice. Oh, and somewhere, if it's not on the old manifold, the injector holes must be plugged up.

Also put on a new distributor, as well as an electronic ignition box, and pretend it's a late '70s, early 80s car, in effect.

Plugs, wires...

And whatever key on, engine on, battery sources you need to make all that work.

In other words... that's a whole lot to put on an EFI v6 engine. And assuming that's what you're saying you want to do.

I simply... wouldn't. You're not gaining anything. Unless it's for more horses. I'd instead investigate a blower or nitrous before I'd be gutting the EFI stuff.

I'm in a rut. I also wanna put a 5.0 in there

Blackout Feb 8, 2013 08:53 PM

Your funny. I never looked into any of all that. I kno mechanics I've never done a swap before. But i like my car. I wanna do something special

Blackout Feb 8, 2013 09:16 PM

Just curious how do you do that swap
