I was looking at the flowmaster cat back system that is supposed to bolt on for something like $420 (i think) or one of the side exit spintec systems that were in a previous thread. With the side exit does it matter (both sound and performance wise) if it only exits one side? Anyone with any experience with either of these or if you know of something better that i could do for a reasonable price, information would be greatly appreciated

I'd shop around for a better price, but your best bet on the 6 is either:

1. find a good muffler shop, have him custom bend some pipes from both sides and pick a muffler, have him weld it in.
2. Finding an aftermarket system from the cats-back for your 6 that allows true duals.


You'd be better of going true duals on your 6. if that's what you meant, sorry to confuse the matter :)

Also, IMO, Flowmasters don't sound great on a 6, but that's just me. (I say this from experience).

I just found out that i could get a full exhaust system off a 2003 cobra, I havent looked into how to match it up yet. If this will sound and work decent its probably the best option for me since the only thing I'd be paying for would be welding it on and cutting the pipes

Heck, I'd sell the one I cut out of the Mach -- at least it fit better. But, you'd have to find a way to weld where I cut and to match it from where my H started.

Either way, you're better of with going duals on your 6. Just shop around a bit.

Saleen sells "take off" parts for dirt cheap for mustangs... things like wheels, fascias, GT exhausts, etc.

Nothing on their site :dunno: I got my spoiler as a take off from Roush, but I have never seen parts from Saleen

It was a bit tricky to find... I read somewhere in a Mustang magazine about all the great deals that you can get through Saleen... they are practically giving some of this stuff away. I remember reading that they wanted $500 for bullitts with basically new rubber... that is a fantastic deal.

Its been a few years now but i bought a kit from california mustangs that converts the v6 Y pipe into an H pipe then from there you can bolt on any of the millions of aftermarket cat back systems made for the GT. I went with a Polished stainless kit from Dyno max and it sounded pretty good. In fact most regualar people would mistake it for a GT with the duals. Even the tech guy at the dealer screwed up had to have some work done and the dual pipes throw him and ordered the wrong parts.... :-D

I bought a mac cat-back y-pipe kit. it was only $300, and sounds good. Not as much performance gains as a true dual, but its not permanent. Which was good when i spun the darn thing out and nearly destroyed the whole exhuast system.

The big advantage of the bolt ons is that, when the 50,000 mile warranty is up, and something, no doubt, goes wrong, you can always just bolt the OEM back up to it.

I can't seem to find where to get Magnaflows...since scothew said they were better than FLOWS. It stinks...Maybe Midas?

Cobra's are open wayyy too much for a V6 and back pressure.


I have a Mac Dual Exhaust y-y setup. I love it.

I wouldnt go with the cobra exhaust because the pipes go under the rear differential because of the IRS. They fit really tight under there, do you wouldnt have the full suspension travel going down. This may not seem like a big deal, but if you ever hit a big bump or have to go off the road to avoid an accident the pipes, would probably get damaged. Best advice: get the cobra stuff for free then find some guy who will buy it from you and get a good exhaust system.

Hey s7v7n about the Magnaflow exhaust, the only stuff they have is a little expensive but they also seem to be really nice and almost worth it, i guess it all comes down to how it sounds.

You may want to check out a local exhaust shop. My friend bought a 2004 v6, and got a GT takeoff system for $160.00 installed. They also recommended Magna Flows too, although he kept the stock mufflers. The Muffler shop said the same theng jeffryDJ was saying, they said Flowmasters are a good muffler, but not on the V6 stang...
