Old Koni's - Looking for Help with Identification

I picked up a set of NOS Koni front shocks. They are red with d-shaped adjuster at the top and a part number of 8641L-1011. I did quite a bit of searching on the web and no luck. I contacted Koni and no luck (number is not still in their system). Anyone have an old catalog or some old school parts knowledge? They are pretty much the same length and style as some current Koni Yellows I have and I believe they are for a Mustang or other Ford from this time period.

Anyone know what these are supposed to fit? Thanks!

Found this on Ebay.

KONI Adjustable Tunable Gas Struts 8641L-1011

This is a pair of 8641L-1011 adjustable gas struts. We do not have fit information. It includes the adjustment tool shown in the photo. It is used to adjust the strut from the top once it is installed. The specifications are:
  • Extended length: 19.5"
  • Compressed length: 11.0"
  • Stroke: 8.5"
Measurements are from the center of the first mounting hole to the shoulder of the shaft. These are new old stock purchased in a distributor buyout. The box is worn, faded, and tattered.

As Per Rock Auto on a 1992 Mustang Front Strut.

Click Info and Some Models will Show Specs.

KYB SPECS

KYB 734013 Specifications
Extended Length (IN) 19.25
Compressed Length (IN) 13.15
Stroke Length (IN) 6.1
Dust Cover Included No Rebound Stop Yes Compressed Bump Stop No Upper Mount Type 16x1.50

Looks Like You Would Lose 2 Inches of Travel if Installed. Fit Would Also be Affected By Lower Mounting Point if Not the Same.

Thanks for the quick reply and info that Rock auto shows (very helpful). The picture you show is actually of the 2 that I bought. I wanted to point out that the guy I talked to at Koni said he was going to go look through catalogs, just haven't heard back and wanted to put it out there in case someone actually already knew.

When I got them, I compared them to the koni DA's I have (8742 1121Sport) and they are pretty much exactly the same measurements except that the space between the mounting ears (where shock slides over the mounting point) is 2 1/8" (wider than the new Koni but I know you can get the metal spacers).
