People debate 331 vs 347 stroked engines constantly. Personally I think they are both good. Do a search in the forum on the subject and I am sure you will find tons of info.

well i'll tell you my dream build, it involves a stroker :-D ...anyway i would go with a 347 stroker fully fordged internals shortblock from coast high performance, slap some 225cc AFR heads on, comp cam's cam with a .640" lift, comp cams adjustable 1.7 roller rockers, trickflow upper/lower intake, twin turbo systemhttp://forums.qwiksnake.com/images/smilies/turbo.gif, and a 200 shot of nitroushttp://forums.qwiksnake.com/images/smilies/nxsmile.gif
of course theres many many flaw i would have to work out, but its only a base becuase i doubt if i'll ever be able to do it.... |
I am still trying to decide what I want for my '91 LX. I am going to do either a 331 or 347 with forged internals so I can do either a turbo (my preference) or a supercharger. Anyone have any suggestions?

what kind of power are you looking for, beacause a kenne bell would give you more low-end power

I generally prefer the 331, better rod-stroke ratio and at least initially the 331 achieved a superior ring seal to a 347 but I think those issues have been resolved. Just my $.02

That sounds like a sweet setup, wish i had the green for it. You might want to hammer out the wheel wells so you can put something bigger than a 245 out back if youre gonna be running a blown 347.

i have 255/50/16 on the back of my 92 lx but i cant go any wider w/o modifying the suspension. i've heard you can remove the quadshocks for more room

Using their rear lower control arms, panhard bar and the Ford Racing upper control arms you can remove the rear quad shocks completely. This will give you a lot more room to run a larger rear tire. The whole set up would run you about $800 not including install. |

Another company is Fox Lake Power Products. They also have a 331 - 347 stroker short block assembly. Big thing I noticed with them is they charge extra for the 5.0L sportsman block where as with the FRP motor it's no charge. Here's what you get with their set up: Fox Lake Forged 331-347 Stroker shortblocks feature: Ford roller block, bored and honed .030" with deckplates, square decked, line honed, new cam bearings and freeze plugs, Eagle 4340 Forged steel crankshaft, Eagle or Probe 4340 forged "H" beam rods with ARP rod bolts, Probe forged pistons with full floating wristpins, file fit rings, Clevite rod and main bearings, assembly fully balanced, blueprinted, clearanced, and pro assembled. Thanks stang freak.......at least someone knows what stroked means. I wonder if I asked about suspension and tires if I would have got discussion on strokers.
