331 stroker

Need some advice on what heads to buy. Currently running gt40p need to upgrade bad I have a 331 stroker, vortec supercharger 12 psi boost, 60 lb injectors, trick flow track heat upper an lower. Blowing hard gaskets with using the ford racing fel pro. I'm gonna upgrade gaskets lower my boost some an buy some better head. Car runs **** good when I don't blow head gasket last dyno 456 hp. Help me out with my weekend cruiser hey I still got my a/c haha!

From what I've read on the Corral the Gt40 heads have a thinner deck surface and are prone to lifting heads under higher boost. But then again, some guys get away with 500+ wheel hp on a stock block with them so maybe it has to do with the tune.:dunno:

I'll be putting an ON3 Performance turbo kit on my 93 Cobra later this year. It's currently stock so I'll just be doing head studs and gasket on mine and hoping for the best.

I'd upgrade to a Trick Flow Fast as cast 170, or AFR 185's though for your 331.

You shouldn't have to lower the boost with the new heads, although I'd get that tune checked for piece of mind. Could have been detonation that found the weakest link, in your case, the head gaskets.

Maybe meth or the Vortech power cooler(if you don't already have one) to lower IATs will help maintain your current power level.

I don't have ether an yes I will have my tune checked soon as I get my heads on. I guess I better check on a cooler. Do you recommend using the same gaskets or going with some better ones. I realize it's better to blow a head gasket rather then something else but dang part of me wants the best I can buy to stop this an what ever else it takes. Seems like I ain't got to race my car much due to failure.

I've been researching these after they were said to be the best Head gasket option in another thread I've been reading. Don't have any other suggestions though. I'd look into the super charger section on the Corral.net for some advice/information if your looking for more opinions.

Are you using the correct head gasket for your compression ratio?

93ssp33 May 18, 2014 09:15 PM

Well I don't know because I don't know my compression ratio.... I know that I didn't blow a head gasket before I added boost. Now it's happen twice in a month. I've put this car to gather over time with parts from here an there saving an swapping. Sorta wish I could start over. Lots of time an money learning.

Go with a head with a 2.02 intake valve or bigger. Think some are going with 2.055. Also get a combustion chamber size above 60cc. Don't get the 58 or 59cc heads. Usually 64+ is the way to go. 170 or 190cc intake runners will be fine. The bigger heads and valves will work well with the blower. Those motors need to breathe. Compression chambers need to be a little bigger than you might think you need. You can go down on compression and open up flow and get better power.

Hey thanks for the info I think your right. I think bigger better heads the gt40p heads are just not cutting it. At the time of my build that's what I had time to upgrade.

Try the trickflow 11R 190 heads those are the heads I will be buying soon..

I understand that. I screwed up and put a set of Windsor Jr. heads on mine because the price was right. Any of the trick flow heads will be great. They also have a number you can call directly to trick flow from their site that tech support will help you decide which heads are right for you. There's just too many options from those guys to just guess which one will be best. Good luck and keep us posted on the build.
