1982-1993 5.0. H.O. history highlights.
Focus will be on the 5.0. H.O. motor. The 1982 H.O. 302 is a thin –wall casted block with a 4.00 X 3.00 bore and stroke ( ’79 used the non-thin walled heavy cast carry over block). In the late 1982 production cycle a revision to the blockwas made to change it to a one piece rear main seal , this also required aredesign of the crankshaft. Two types ofblocks have been used in the fox mustang non-roller short casting and rollertall casting block. The crank shaft wascast iron and the connecting rod where forged steel through 1993 in the fox mustang 5.0. .
Year by year 5.0. H.O. highlights : 1982 The 5.0. H.O. was introduced in the fox mustang Imbalance changed to 50oz. and a 34oz damper Cast aluminum pistons 351W flat tappet camshaft, duration 260* intake, 278*exhaust. Lift .416” intake & .444 exhaust Double roller timing chain Carry over “D9AE” heads with larger valves and upgraded valve springs Aluminum dual plane intake manifold 369 cfm motorcraft 2 barrel carb Dual snorker 15” high dome air cleaner Cast iron headers 1983 600 cfm motorcraft/holley 4 barrel carb Dual snorker 17” high dome air cleaner Engine carried over 1984 Engine carried over Redesigned automatic choke Central fuel injection added for automatic transmission equipped H.O.’s 1985 Revised block with retainer bosses for roller tappets Hydraulic roller camshaft introduced. 266* duration and .444”lift Revised cylinder heads to allow removal of roller tappets w/o removing heads. New part # E5AE Distributor drive gear changed to work with new steelcamshaft Forged aluminum pistons make debut. 2 valve reliefs cut intothe tops and compression stayed 8.4:1 Carry over motorcraft/holley 4 barrel carb with improvedsecondary metering Water pump impeller blades redsigned to improve cooling Stainless steel tubular headers make debut on fox mustang 1986 Block revision. The block now has extra thick decks &cylinder walls. The block was cast in semi-siamese design. The upper bore wallsare fully coolant jacketed and the lower bore is cast with solid iron joiningthe cylinders. Flat top forged aluminum pistons increased compression to9.2:1 New high swirl cylinder heads with masked valves where used. New part # E6AE Camshaft carried over SEFI ( sequential fuel injection) introduced on the fox. Speed density controlled sytem with 58mm TB and 19lb/hr injectors New aluminum low drag water pump 1987 New truck cast cylinder heads with with revised combustionchamber. New part # E7TE Forged aluminum domed pistons with 4 valve reliefs. Compression now 9.1:1 1988 Mass air on California models. 55mm mass air meter nowmeasures actual air flowing into the engine 49 state models remain carry over Minor cam revision. Change in lobe contour makes small change to valve events. Cost about3hp 1989 Mass Air on all models 1990 carry over 1991 Cam revision to fix hole and threads in in snout of cam. Carry over 1992 Carry over Late ’92 production got cast hypereutectic pistons ( from searching for a firm answer, yes some owners of '92 have these pistons, no doubt has ford was getting ready for '93 production around 10/92. Research has also found that majority have found that forged piston motors had the gray oil pan and hypers had the black oil pan found on '93 and later 302's ) 1993 Cast hypereutectic pistons High torque mini starter Carry over 1993 GT40 Cast hypereutectic pistons GT40 cylinder heads with larger ports, valves and performance springs 1.7 roller rockers High lift short duration camshaft. .282” lift 270* duration GT40 cast aluminum upper/lower intake 65mm TB 70mm MAF 24lb/hr injectors Under driven water pump & crank pulleys Special calibrated ECC . |

I've got a factory 93 block bored and stroked to a 331. How much HP you think it can hold? I'm runing 470 RWHP now.
