Well today was the day that I put up the car for the winter. Went for a couple of nice drives the last couple of day, but in the next week there is already a chance of snow :bang: Anyways my question is about adding fuel stabilizer to my car. I had just below 1/4 a tank when I got to the gas station. The directions on sta-bil say to add 1 oz. per 2 1/2 gallons of gas. So I added 10 gallons of gas, and put in about 4.5 oz. of the stabilizer. To anyone who has stored a car for the winter does that seem about right? I want to make sure I add enough so I dont encounter any problems next spring.

I think it is best to fill the tank as much as possible. Any air in the tank will lead to condensation and that will cause water in the fuel and could lead to rust in the tank. Add the stabil product and consider some of the Isoproply based dry gas products.

Most of the claims of "water in the gas" from a gas station originate from condensation on the storage tanks. A low volume station obviously is more likely to have this problem that a high volume station. So pick your service station accordingly.

after adding the 10 gallons the gas gauge said full. Still not sure how many gallons the tank is. It's my first time filling up all the way :dunno:

Stock tank is 16gal if I recall correctly.

Tonight we go below freezing, which means salt and sand crews... that's the official end of my driving season. Which this year went from September to November ... gotta get things in shape sooner next year.

So if I added about 4.5oz of the stabilizer, and the tank had just under 1/4 tank, do you think what I did will work for over the winter? Or do I need to go add a bit more stabilizer and gas? Sorry for all the ?'s about this but I wanna do this correct. It's the first time i've ever put up a car for the season.

Anyone have an opinion on whether I did or didn't put enough stabilizer in the gas tank? Me not sure :scratch:

It's fine. Your mix ratio is close enough for a few short months of winter storage.

If you were storing it for a longer period (a year or more), I'd try to get it exact, but you're fine the way it is.

Thanks GT350. Now I have one less thing to worry about this winter. It's gonna drive me nuts, wondering hoping my car comes out of the garage next spring as good as I put it in this fall. I hope as I have my car longer this gets better...But this first year is driving me nuts. I want to drive the thing. :bang:

i know how ya feel dan, im just now gettin mine drivable and its snowing outside, i guess she'll just have to wait till around april and maybe gain a few horses from a new intake and carb!

Your lucky you get to mess around with yours this winter. It will be fun for ya to put on a new carb etc...I on the other hand had to store mine in a friends garage cuz the apt. I live in doesn't have one. I gotta drive 15 min just to go look at the thing :bang: I can't wait to move next year.
