kyles never ending '68 project

I've been away from the forums for a while been busy working on the mustang this summer, here are the updates

finished my 351 build
(bored .060 over, heads have been ported and polished, edelbrock aluminum intake manifold, holley 600, mallory dual point distributor, roller rockers, Crane Cam don't remember the specs of of the top of my head but med. lift and long duration. i'll have pictures soon.

Finished brakes and suspension
(replaced crummy 4-bolt 6 cylinder mustang suspension and rear-end with all new suspension parts (A-arms, lower control arms, tie rods, etc.) 1’’ front end drop springs and KYB gas adjust shocks, heavy duty leaf springs in the rear, 9’’ rear end and spindles from a 1970 torino.

Installed new 3-row radiator with 12’’ electric fan

That’s basically it for this summer hopefully if I get lucky I can drive it for most of my senior year. I busted my butt working this summer to get this far. Hope to see you on the road, thanks for the support.

that motor is pretty badass. might want to update those drums though ;) lol with that much power under the hood, you definately want some better stopping power

Yeah exactly what he said!

4 wheel drum is not going to cut it with the added weight and power.

kjacobson351 10/18/06 01:59 PM

Just one thing at a time. As much as I want this thing to go AND stop like a champ all I really want to do is just drive it. We redid all of the brakes though and turned the drums so I guess...Welcome to 1968

Drums are not the best choice, but they work if you pay attention and understand the mechanics. I've still 4 wheel drums and havn't had any issues and I'm not hesitant to be WOT at any given time, esp when the ricers show out from light to light ;-)

codeman94 10/20/06 06:21 PM

Yeah dude...that motor looks badass! Looks brand new!

Bulldog66 10/21/06 04:41 AM

I wish I would have had a chance to do these things with my kids. They were more into sports and chasing girls :\

My wife digs the Mustang and I have to fight her on the weekends to drive it, but I'll be ****ed if I can get her in the garage to do any of the work to it with me :p

Great looking ride you're going to have there friend.

In a week or two I'll have enough money to buy my exaust system, I'm getting dual out the back. The "Exhaust Guy" is a dealer of flowpro mufflers the best deal money wise is to use his mufflers they are a clone of flowmaster 40's has anyone heard of these before?

future9er24 10/23/06 02:17 PM

never heard of em. we better get sound clips :nice:

kjacobson351 10/31/06 09:10 AM

I made my appointment to drop it off tomorrow at the shop to get the system put on. its $320 for duals with mufflers and an h-pipe, for 2 1/4'' pipe.

I hooked the battery up the other night and tried to figure out all of my wiring. the only thing that is not working is my fan motor and my headlights. but I found a couple of things that re-affirm that I bought one of the coolest cars in the world.
1. when I turn my brights on a red mustang emblem lights up on my dash.
2. when the key is on whatever gear I am in turns green on my shifter.(cant wait to take it up to 2500 rpm, and go throught the gears in that manual valve body!)
3. Instead of a motor to pump my windshield washer fluid on my windows there is a little foot pump. and when the power is hooked up and you push it down, it turns my windshield wipers on!

are those things cool? or do I just have mustang fever?

future9er24 10/31/06 09:12 PM

What the heck??? Did you add those things? The previous owner perhaps?

Because that is flippin awesome!!!!

07ShelbyWanter 11/1/06 09:57 AM

that light thing on the dash sounds cool.. and that motor looks awesome! enjoy!

The other night I was reading an older issue of mustang monthly and theres that section where people ask for help'n stuff. and he was asking about his 65 wipers. and the "tech guy" said that he should replace his 65 system with a 68 system and he talked about the foot pump activated the wipers. so I hooked my battery up and pushed my pump and I almost pee'd myself. the running horse on the dash is stock and so are my shifter lights.

I bought the manual valve body c4 from my neighbor who used to race a ford falcon.

kjacobson351 11/2/06 09:06 AM

I dropped my mustang off at the shop yesterday to get my exaust put on and he said that it should be done today. (its weird to have somebody else working on my mustang rather than me.) even though it has been less that 24 hours I'm going crazy.

Now I know what Arin is going through with his II, i've been reading you thread and its good to know there are other young rodders out there. good luck bud!

I was wrong about the price it ended up costing me $367 so not to bad. it was a little extra because i got bigger exaust tips and I got them stainless so there would be no rust action. I got 2 1/2 angle cut round tips. routed right between my spring and gas tank. can't wait to see how it looks.

Thats pretty awesome that they are standard features.

And also... $367 for your whole exhuast system sounds just plain awesome lol. *sigh*

It definately is great to see other guys like me building old school cars, rathat than building another POS in the abundance of ricers that are in the hands of most kids our age. Way to be!
