Interior Paint Question

I am painting my dash, doors and interior panels on my 65, anyone have recommendations on what paint to use? Looking for spray or rattle can options.

I recommend the correct color you want of vinyl. It's what I did to my car.

Oh, I thought about tackling the job of painting it... and started to, honestly... but I wound up not wanting to clean and spray that textured metal for fear it'd smooth out or such, and I really didn't feel like bodywork in the inside... and there was so MUCH of it... and... welll, there was this rust issue on the passenger side inside panel...

So... I just got a big bolt of vinyl in the correct Red (I called a place that sold the rear quarter panel covers and said "send me 4(?) yards" "this red may not match what we sent you..." "Don't care, send it, and a bill.") and went to town.

Used a heat gun to get it to mold around the switchgear humps, careful relief slices in the door curves... the weatherstrip covered the seams on those. Did the 'sticks' of the A pillar, and the little headliner clip covered THAT seam. The column I wrapped and cut like a carpet seam, then put a nice piece of stainless I found somewhere to cover it, it looked *so* pro. Teeny screws to avoid wire chafing in that.

Coverd the ashtray, easy, put the radio in, glove box, gauges... no problems. The quarter trims were used as I'd already gotten them, and that's it. It's really only 6 pieces to cover, and with the exception of the bottoms of the doors and the switchgear humps, it's incredibly easy to do. Use gorilla glue on the edges and curves, and the spray adhesive on the flat bits.

I *loved* it when I was done... and was proud too, because I'd never done it before. It turned out fantastic, if I do say so myself... and I do.

SO much better than the paint. Indescribably better. Seriously.

---

But, if you are bound and determined to paint them with rattle cans, I suggest Duplicolor Enamel of whatever color you choose. It's inside, so it'll be ok, and should stick.

Now, if you had a spray setup, then I would just go down and get any color you need mixed up. We used Deltron, I think, when we did Muskrat, but that was on the outside, and glossy. I dunno if glossy is what you want, I'd go for a more satin/matte finish. Of course, you can always 'clearcoat' with a satin clear if you wanted, and that could be done with rattle cans....

---

Oh, forget all that noise, just use the vinyl. It's awesome.

/I must admit, I'm living a little vicariously through your project. Hope ya don't mind.
//Oh, yeah, I carpeted the package tray too. Just 'felt' better. Used the same carpet in the trunk while I was at it.
///The dash cover I used a darker Mar-Hyde red and put 10 *very light* coats on it... slowly changing, just dusting it really... And before, I used a toothbrush and laquer thinner to clean it. It turned out perfect. And I hadn't done THAT before either.

Do you have any pictures of your vinyl interior? Sounds very interesting!

Guys and/or gals, I do not in fact have any pics of the interior. Way before the interwebs were awesome like now, and pictures somehow are lacking. And I was having too much fun in the car and such like that... all the excellent excuses you can think of, I probably would say "oh yeah, that too."

I really wish I did though. I feel really bad about it.

If I get my web page figured out, there's a couple maybe in the article I have posted. I gotta call those people...

Eastwood paint co is a good place to start. They have lots of choices for interior paints.
