Getting 65 door striker plate off

How do you get the screws off on the striker plate for the door?
Has anyone done this, can't get them lose with a big scredriver, any ideas??
thanks in advance, Keith.

You mean the vin tag? if so I'm pretty sure that's riveted on.

Could it be that inside the door panel is a nut that can be loosened? Just a shot in the dark.

You might try one of these.

Yeah, they've been in there really long time sounds like...

Take off the quarter panel trim in the back seat... shouldn't be too hard. You remove the seat bottom and back, then the panel comes off with windlace and screws, IIRC. Oh yeah, and the window crank. Been a while, so forgive me for my rustiness (and pardon that pun there.)

With that outta the way you can then get to the back side and put some penetrating oil on those screws. It won't be terribly easy to be sure, but you should be able to find the captured nuts and get some oil on them.

Let them sit. Then beat the head side of the screws with a screwdriver and a hammer for a few whacks... Then put more oil on it. Maybe repeat one more time.

Then try to get them out. They still won't like it but they should come out. Take your time, don't rush. The impact screwdriver above might help too.

And then replace them square nuts and the screws, of course, don't reuse them old things.

Let us know.

Took a couple squirts of penetrating oil and an impact driver, but they finally came loose,
Thanks to all for the help.

I wasn't much help but glad to know you got 'em off :)

Glad you got it off. Why are you taking it off, repaint?

The drivers side shaft was loose and wobbly, and the door would not shut correctly.
Figured while I was changing one just as easy to change them both.
