fuel pump conversion
 

I am converting my fuel pump from mechanical to electric on my 66 coupe. Has anyone experienced any problems with this or knows of any?

Depending on how Hot or Powerful a Fuel Pump you are installig a regulator may be needed. Any particular reason for getting away from the mechainical pump??

No particular reason. My fuel pump went out so I decided to convert it over for better flow and performance

Mine is converted to electric. You will need to wire in a relay to power the pump. My pump is mounted right behind the rear axle with the bolts going through to the trunk. I have a filter mounted next to that. Easy access to the fuel line coming out of the tank that way. Then you just need a block off plate for the timing cover. Works great for the long winter storage. Just give the pump a few seconds to prime the bowls and very little cranking is needed.

Noboss, so u have noticed the benefits converting it over to electric? Thanks for the instilation tips. I will follow those for my instillation.

you have to go thru the hassle of cutting your line at the tank , running an electric feed wire all the way back .. adding a fuel regulator ,, paying twice or more as much for the electric pump .. nascar still uses manual pumps on their 800 horse motors .. they work fine ..

You really only need electric for forced induction applications, or the engine you are installing doesn't have a spot for a mechanical fuel pump.

You guys act like he's going against the grain by installing an electric fuel pump. Your right you don't absolutely need an electric pump. Its just nice to turn the key and know its pumping fuel. My pump is wired in a way that it act's like a theft deterrent device. No fuel no running motor.

I although it is not an absolute to convert over, I just want tp be able to turn my key and have the engine turn over. I don't want to have to keep pumping my gas pedal to get the engine to turn over. I believe this conversion will help with that.

by all means go for it .. iv`e got an electric on my V6 pinto but only cause the fuel injected motor had no provisions for a manual pump .. got it at advanced auto about 6 years ago .. tiny little thing .. still had to get a regulator as well ..

I installed my fuel pump yesterday. It really makes a difference with an electric fuel pump. I turn the key at it fires up. Sure beats pumping the gas prior to starting the engine.

What brand pump did you go with?

I installed a carter fuel pump.
