Buying advice on these two cars

I own a 2007 stang and I'm courting the idea of getting a classic to run alongside it....

First theres a 69 fastback, looks to be in great shape

http://www.mustangclassifieds.com/mustang-3065.html

Then theres the 1965 incarnate of my car, same paint and all

http://www.mustangclassifieds.com/mustang-3118.html

the 65 is only a few hours from where I live but the pics the seller sent show some pretty bad rust spots or paint bubbling, I dont know how to deal with those, if their fixable or what, anyone got any advice on the matter?

the 69 looks gorgeous, only I dont know a thing about transportation, how would I get it to me if I bought it? how expensive is that?

I'll be honest with you. Go with the '69. Even though the '65 is modded out the whazoo, and would be wicked fun and fast...its still a coupe....and thus "not as cool as a fastback"...(I get that all the time from myself about my car ) The '69 is a great platform for an all out Mach 1 clone, or just a cruiser. Its your choice. maybe I would choose the '69 becuase i already have a '65....who knows...

However...the '65 has that CLASSIC feel and look to it. no one will ever confuse it. it is a MUSTANG.

The '65 is not as close to stock (wrong engine block for one).
If you have to sell later, the '69 is easier to sell (closer to stock and more rare).
Most important, if you are not used to dealing with rust there will always be more than you can see at first glance. Rust bubbles under paint usually mean a bad prep and paint job, and complete repaint will be needed.
I vote for the '69 or looking around for a longer time (it can take years to find the perfect classic for you).

I agree with what yall are saying, I LOVE the 69, a Mach 1 or Parnelli Jones clone would probably be in the cards, if not, its gorgeous as is....but the 65 is the exact same color body and stripes as mine.....its almost fate......why the rust, and why must I have a love for something so expensive, I want them all

I'd go with the '69 as well. The '67-'69 Mustangs are my favorites and being a sportsroof makes it all the better. Barring any hidden surprises, that's a pretty good price and if I were closer, I'd be interested in it myself.

Buy the 1969!! I had one very similar (including selling price) that I built up over a 10 year period and finally sold to pay for my 2005 GT Coupe driver. I'm working on reassembling a 1967 coupe now.

The 69 looks sharp and and appears to be a decent price. It's located about a half hour from me but I've never seen it at the Northern Virginia Mustang Club meets. Good luck with your decision.

if the '65 didn't have the rust problems and assorted issues, i would have said go with it.

As much as I love fastbacks, I got plenty of love for the coupes too, and that one seems pretty killer

But the '69 would be a better buy, given the flaws of the '65

I went by to see the 69 from the link posted in the first post. I had mixed emotions about it. The paint quality was OK, but the preparation was not. Looks like it was painted with all the trim on the car. Lots of overspray on the edge of the trim. The crevices where the headlights meets the fender were painted in place and not professional looking. Same as the rear taillight crevices. The black hood scoop could use some work, could see buldges in several places that looked like body putty, scoop could be removed, fixed and repainted. No bubbles in the paint in the typical rust areas so the front fenders and rear quarters looked like they were replaced as stated in the ad. Most of the chrome trim looked it's age, although he said he had new exterior door handles and some other chrome. The drivers side c-pillar chrome was replaced, but not the passenger side yet. Some body putty noticeable around the lip of the wheel wells, could have been sanded a little better before paint. Paint condition pretty good for a 90's paint job. Inside the seats were nice, headliner needs work, new window handles needed, has Mach1 emblem on dash below the clock, clock lens is yellowed and clock is hardly visible. Engine was pretty clean, he said he had new oversize radiator, new water pump, new PS Pump. The 302 is upgraded from the stock 2 bbl carb to a 4 bbl. Car has headers and a very loud exhaust system, but looks in good shape. The drivers side header did make a noise like it was leaking, probably needs a gasket, although the one on it looks fairly new. Took it for a test drive and it was very responsive and quick. Power disc brakes stopped great.

I have not priced and looked at any other 69's so not sure if it worth the $13,900 or not. But is definitly not a rust bucket and would be an easy restoration to make it a daily driver show quality. Probably would not win any shows as is.

Hope this helps, if anyone has any specific questions that I can offer my independent opinion, please feel free to ask.
