I also say the Boss 429. Most potential.

And where do you leave the Cleveland 351 and Boss 302. Small blocks but great performance.

The Cleveland was twice the motor the windsor ever was. The heads have ports that golf ball could fall into on Cleveland. They never broke either. When you build em up those motors were very powerful. There is just way more windsors out there so more parts for em.

427 side oiler or the boss lawman motor

The 427 side oiler was listed in a book I read at 657HP at the fly wheel, the "regular" 427 was rated at 615HP.

From the factory? Yes

Considering aftermarket? IMHO the Windsor is the best small block ford ever made.

Except for a noted problem with core shift and cleveland blocks developing cracks on the thrust wall of the bore with more than an 0.020 overbore.

The factory heads prior to the OZ stuff weren't all that great either. The 4v stuff flowed alot but had problems with controling the mixture at lower RPM. The 302 Boss heads had a problem with fuel wash and could actually blow the spark plugs out as a result.

If anybody cares to remeber a popular upgrade for the heads were a set of plates that fit in betwen the heads and the maifolds. These plates would raise the port floor, reducing turbulance and increase exhaust flow.

Ford had the right idea with the cleveland heads, a canted valve head with a nice tight chamber that had a good amount of quench area which should have allowed it to trump the hemi heads of the day (the Boss 429 was superior to the hemi in this regard as well) but the ports were just plain over kill and compromised on the exhaust side due to chassis restrictions.

That said, the current batch of cleveland style heads solves these problems nicely with excellent chambers and ports which takes advantage of the canted valve layout and its ability to outflow a parallel valve head.

I have heard the 351c was a great race motor but a poor street performer due to the massive ports.

That being said while I favor the Windsor as my favorite small block, I think the 351C is the coolest.

I was sure that ford never put the 427 SOHC in any car.

I see that you do not like Boss 302 that much...
I tought that it was one of the best engine, given that the 69 was designed for this engine
