I feel your pain
I have been down this far. Still going for that matter. 
Looks can be decieving to say the least.
I will start a new forum for those that are interested to take a look. Good luck to you. I am also trying to do EVERYTHING right. I have good help and I hope the result is worth the $$$$$$$.

It's been a few months since my last updated post,,, this due to the fact that we decided to find a parts car. A few parts were needed that are not made ("yet") for convertibles...So the hunt was on !!! After a few months , a car (body) has been purchased that has the needed part (rain channel/drain). Got the car for $400... I felt it was a good deal ... Fabrication would have been much more costly....
The second part not made are wheel wells for converts(converts have a flat spot where the top folds down on them)...fabrication on those not to bad ...so here goes pics from this past Sat.

We have some more updates....the car now has quarter panels welded on and the car is off the frame table and back on the rotisserie.....
More pictures to come soon....we are finishing up underneath and building a body dolly for the car.

We have also received all of our Fiberglass parts for the project from Branda Performance. We went with the louvered hood vs. the standard flat '67 Shelby hood. The rollbar also came in as well. We'll get some pictures together and posted later today.

Great work guys. Unfortunately there are a lot of 67 and 68 mustangs in the shape this one was in. My 68 fastback needed a complete restoration. It ended up being too much for me in my little garage so I sold it. +1 on the Dynacorn panels. They are great and the closest thing to original ford panels out there. Good luck with the build. You should also check out ReenMachine 67 Shelby clone with a mod motor. If you are going updated interior I have the name of a supplier who can make the 67 deluxe door panels without the window crank hole. I can't wait to see it done.

We've seen the Reen Machine clone but we want more......this one is getting the '04 Terminator supercharged DOHC 4.6 and we are working on fitting an '07 Shelby GT500 6 speed transmission into the car. We also do not want to go the route that most go like the Reen clone by using the Mustang II front suspension....that is probably the worst handling option but often used because it is easy and cheap...for a street rod or cruiser the Mustang II system works but there are FAR better solutions for suspension systems that actually perform well on the track as well as the street out there. I've used the mustang II system before and I just don't like it....but my tastes tend to lean more toward function and performance. More details on the suspension once we nail everything down. 
We are also going to replace the entire original harness with a Painless wiring kit....this gives use a fuse block with newer style fuses, all new wiring and makes it easier to adapt the modern electronics to work with the car.
