I know there has been discussions on this topic but I wanted to re open it. I just purchased a 67 fastback GT S-code (390 CI), and I live in Houston (hot, humid). I plan on driving this thing about 1000-2000 miles per year. I have heard that synthetic oils can screw up an engine because once they are used, they must always be used due to the way they stick to parts. If you go back to regular oil it can cause an imbalance so-to-speak and screw up the pistons. I'm no gear head but this sounds bad. What should I use for my First oil change? Engine is completely stock (matching) and has 57000 original miles.

Id use regular dino oil, you aren't driving enough to justify more expensive stuff. 10-40 or 20-50.

use a Motorcraft, Purolator or Wix filter. FRAM filters are junk.

I'll be looking to buy a classic within the next month or so (or however long the search takes) and I had the exact question. In my 04 Mach I use AMSOIL, which is obviously not such a great idea on a classic I don't think (unless it was totally rebuilt).

However, I have seen the Oil "specially formulated for classic cars" advertised. I believe made by Quaker State. Anyone know anything about that? I had assumed it was just a sales ploy.

I drive my 67 about 900 miles per year. I use cheap 10W-30 and change it every six months. Even at 2000 miles per year, there is no need to waste money on an expensive synthetic or additives.
