My car left me stranded. It acted like it ran out of gas even though it wasn't, so I'm guessing I need a fuel pump. Looks like the original might still be on there.

However I'm seeing a design difference in stock type replacements and performance brands like Edelbrock and Holley. The stock type has a canister under it (I'm guessing a filter) and the performance units don't.

My question is: Are the performance pumps designed to work without that canister filter, or will I need to re-use and somehow attach the old canister to it or get a new one?

I'd like to upgrade to a performance brand, but I don't want to take it apart and learn that I don't have all of the parts I need. Thanks!

you just need to add an inline filter between the fuel pump and the carb if there is not one screwed into the carb already ..that pump can be a booger to put on .. it is spring loaded and can be difficult to get the bolts started straight ..

I recommend a filter before and after the pump.
that way if there is any debris in the tank it doesn't log the pump.
