1965 Stalling (Possible Carburetor Issue)

Hello All!

I have a 1965 Mustang (200 ci, straight 6, 1 barrel carburetor) who is having trouble. It starts up, idles rough for a few seconds, shakes, and then stalls out.
I already checked the point’s gap and spark plugs just in case that was a problem, but they are all fine.
I was told that it sounded like the engine wasn’t getting enough gas, but I have a full tank.
I was told to check the gas filter, check for a clog in the fuel lines to the carburetor, and/or rebuild the carburetor.
I already bought a rebuild kit which has nice clear instructions, but I’m not quite sure how to check the fuel lines to see if they are clogged.

I would very much appreciate the help! Thanks so much!

check the choke .. sounds like the choke pulloff may not be working .. when you first start your engine after pumping the gas pedal a time or two it should set the choke flap closed ,, almost immediately on startup the choke pull off should open the choke flap enuff for the engine to continue running and the choke spring will heat up and open the choke completely after about 3 or 4 minutes of running ...

Your fuel pump might be going out.

See if the car will stay running on ether spray. If it does, you have a fuel delivery problem.

My 289 is very cold-natured, and hates to run on first start-up. I have a manual choke and have to keep it choked for a while before it warms up enough to run on its own. Will the car absolutely not stay running?
