2011 Mustang GT Air Conditioning Problems

My 2011 Mustang GT is only 1 1/2 years old and the AC went out. It has 45,000 miles on it. I haven't taken in to get it fixed yet but was wondering has anyone heard of any problems with the AC on the 2011 Mustangs?

I live in Florida and the temps are getting to 94 degrees with 95% humidity so I definitely need AC!

Thanks for any input,
-John

With that amount of mileage you just might have a damaged condensor from a rock or somthing similar. What exactly happened to your A/C? Blows warm air or does not blow any air at all?

Are you still under warranty?

(I'm thinking the mileage means you're not, but I'm not sure...)

I've had a few issues with my AC. The blend door motor stripped out once making it not be able to control the temp, and once it just completely stopped working for about 2 hours, then it started working fine again. I've also noticed that after a very long drive (like 10 hours) it stops cooling and seems like the evap is frozen.

It started with just blowing warm air from the driver side vents (the passenger side seemed a little cooler). However, two days later both vents now blowing warm air. I hear the compressor engage when I turn on the AC. Never ran over any rocks that I know of. The car is out of warranty (45,000 miles) but only 1 1/2 years old, mostly highway miles. I hope I'm not looking at a $1000-$2000 repair bill!

How much did it cost to change the blend door motor?

Problem is now fixed

Took it to the dealer and they said the evaporator was leaking and needed to be replaced. They had to remove the dashboard to replace it. Cost $1,300. YIKES!!!

Angry AC Issues

my 2011 is in the shop a second time - the first time was in December of last was still in warranty and they had to replace a cracked hose connected to the Compressor - now 10 months later the ac is blowing hot again and the dealership is saying my relay is out. I'm not of warranty with 42,000 miles.

Hi cnoela21,

Welcome to the forum! My name is Deysha with Ford Service. I recommend you speak with your service manager about this. He/she is in the best position to look into any type of assistance available for the repairs needed. Let me know the outcome.

First, find out the "rate" at which it is leaking, assuming the stealership isn't just farming for work. If you go to a local auto store, get a can of Freon. Find the cap that charges the freon on the Mustang. Forgot where it is since I'm at work, but it is very visible. Make sure you have the right one as there is a "high" side and a "low" side to the pressures in the system. The caps are usually colored to show the difference. Check the manual on the A/C system too, or download the service manual from AFM and check it there.... Note the pressure on the valve of the Freon can's gauge once it's attached. See if it's in the "yellow" or "red" area. If it isn't, IMMEDIATELY stop going to that dealer. It is not that bad. Fill the system up til the gauge is green according to directions, and write downt the numeric pressure from the gauge . Re-measure it every day or two to see where the pressure is. If it's slowly leaking out, yep, you got a leak. Might be better to just go to an auto-refrigeration repair place that specializes in that stuff vs the dealer who will no doubt try to sell you a whole new ride and tell you that your flux capacitor is leaking leprechaun urine.

My AC just went out at 64k, (2011 Mustang GT). I have not had an AC failure at anything less than 100k miles. You can easily see the AC compressor was a weak point with a quick google search. I dont know if I can continue to be a Ford customer...

I had to do a recharge on my 2011 with 57k miles. The low side line going to the compressor looks like it got dry rotted. Probably a combination of engine heat and not using it that much (NJ).
